 Anyone Ever Use Soda Ash?

Anyone ever used soda ash to attract deer? Had a man using it at our lease and he said they were getting after it. Looked it up and it has ingredients along the line of baking soda and has uses in the clothes washing industry. I know goats will eat baking soda if their stomach is upset to balance the ph in their stomach. Just wondering if any of you chemists out there are feeding it and what is it in the soda ash that the deer are attracted to?
