Opened up shop in Midland this past week. Prices are to good to be true. 300 for a WT shoulder and 350 for a Mule deer shoulder.

I'm not bashing the man as I know nothing about him. He was in San Angelo for yrs. Anyone had him do any work and your thoughts.

Some things should never be purchased because they are cheap. Condoms, parachutes and taxidermy are at the top of that list.

I just started an apprenticeship doing Taxidermy. Here's my 2 bits worth... People can charge what they want. Does the quality of the work often reflect the price? I think so... However, I do know the "cost" to do mounts at this point (which is pretty much the same for everyone). So, if you like the person's work and pay what they charge then what's the harm? The guy I am working with does great work and could easily charge $100+ more for each mount. He has a heart for people and he is comfortable charging what he charges and he has tons of work. I think people get greedy, an inflated sense of self, fall in love with money and forget why people want a mount to begin with. It's a business, I realize. I also know there is time involved and each person wants to be compensated for their time and artistic touches to each animal. That looks different for each person and that's the beauty of this great nation. We could live in a place where each profession is given what they will charge for said work. I personally am tired of people crying and griping about it. You think your mounts are worth $750? Cool, charge that. You think they are worth $300. Cool, charge that. The customers will decide what they like and how much they want to pay. I don't think there is any shortage of work.

To me there are only 3 kinds of taxi.
Horrid
Passable
Art

Unfortunately some folks base their expectations of what they are going to get based on what they pay.

I would go to his shop and look at his work. Ask to see an example of his typical commercial work and ask him to show you any completion mounts he has done. then decide what you want to do.

Just saw this post. Found an ad of his in the local thrifty nickel here in Midland. Prices are very low and about to have him do 2 Euros for me. His $75 sure as hell beats the $200 my normal taxidermist wanted. Guess I'm about to find out the quality of work he does.
