I made this with wood cut from a dead mesquite out back. It has been dead for a long while and was very dry wood.

Each square is about 1.5". Overall it is 9x12. This is after the first coat of butcher block conditioner. I will put 3 more coats on it to get it seasoned right.

There are some spots that look like gaps or cracks but it is just really dark areas of the wood.

Not too hard to do. Plenty of videos on youtube. I started an oak and black walnut checkered one tonight and will prob finish it tomorrow.
