So the hunting in Mason County last week yielded very poor results. No big bucks and no mature does. My father-in-law informed me that he would be willing to take me back up to his lease one more time during the weekend of Jan 2-4. Wanted to see if you guys had any tips for late season hunting. Most of the guys on his lease have already tagged out so I'm assuming that hunting pressure will be fairly low. We had decent results in stands located in crossing routes last week but absolutely no deer came to the feeders. My wife is going to be mad if I don't at least put some meat in the freezer. Help a brother out

If you get a good, couple day long cold front with lows below freezing then the feeders may get better because a lot of the native browse will die off. If not I'd try targeting areas in and around some thick cover and bedding areas, deer are probably going to be moving early and late so the closer to the bedding areas you are the better your chances. If you can find a spot like this has a good food source that would be even better. Even though the other guys may be tagged out, it takes a while for deer to return to normal after a lot of hunting pressure IMO so it helps to be closer to the bedding areas. Of course, if you were seeing deer at the crossing routes on your last trip I'd think they would still be productive, too. Good luck, hope that helps.

Take vacation and hunt during the middle of the week.

Mature bucks and does know that their buddies went to corn and got dead. Find the thickest area of the property and hunt the wind early and late. Hand corn if you have to...

Where I hunt, we are loaded with acorns. They are only hitting the feeders at night. So, what I did, was hand corn away from the feeders and sprayed it with vanilla/water mix. Hunt it next day, all the corn would be gone, but had deer come in looking for more.

That late in the season you might also try hunting during the middle of the day. The deer will have patterned your morning/evening movements and may move at odd times. Hunt those crossing trails between 10-2 and see what happens.

Ask your FIL for starters, sounds like they did OK and he should know where to be, Food will be the draw UMO so a food plot may be a gold mine early and last light.

Our deer are only hitting at night as we'll Pour corn in a 5 gallon bucket, usually just about 1/4 of corn. Then spray with vanilla that is 3 parts water to one part vanilla while corn is in bucket. Stir it up while spraying, then throw out. Every time I do this, corn is gone next day and deer keep coming in to find more.

I hunted a few miles East of Mason a few weeks ago. Deer were feeding on winter grass. Hand corning back in the thick stuff also worked , somewhat.. Also , the majority of the deer movement was mid-day. Good luck
