Second year on this lease. We didnt see any axis last year. But we are seeing them this year, most of the bucks have already shed anters and started growing. I took this nice buck Thanksgiving weekend.

I don't know where you are hunting but I will say that Menard County has some huge free ranging Axis deer. Two years ago, a local drove up to Burnham Brothers and asked if I knew how to score an Axis. I told him that I was not an official scorer but could give him an estimate. Before even pulling out the tape, I walked out to see if I would be wasting my time. It was very wide and tall and carried a lot of mass thought still in velvet. Long story short, I rough scored the critter and refereed to my record book and saw that he was on the high (very high) end of Gold Medal. I told him to haul it to Old Friends Taxidermy in San Angelo to an official scorer where the buck over 163. The scorer said that he was the second largest Axis ever scored in Texas. Since then, I saw another monster less than a mile of where this one was taken. He was on the side of the highway, grazing at 5:00 AM.
Don't ask for a photo because I don't have one. Sorry.
Adios,
Gary

Thanks, my third ever. I have game cam pics of a beast also. He had horns in Oct pics and dropped in Nov. pics. I looked around for the sheds when i was there last week, no luck. I'll post up the pic when i get it on the computer. And yes, the whitetail meat is the last to go out the freezer!
