This old place was actually built in the late 1880's and was updated 3 or 4 times til 1938. Time for my metal detector.

Cool pictures, I love old places like that.
I haven't done too good with my metal detector at them, although I keep trying.
I have to adjust my detector a lot to find anything at them old places. Then it is nails, hardware and pull tabs. A few good finds, but few and far between.

The stories that place could tell. Had one like that here at the ranch I dozed down years ago to build a new cabin.

Find the old outhouse, that is where all the cool old stuff was pitched out.

I have been back to this picture a dozen times, there is something about these old falling down houses that screams out to me that someone needs to save them. On an ranch down near Mason there was an old house like this one, one time we went by and the rancher was working on it. A year later it was restored. That was 40 years ago, when I see pics like this I wonder what could be done???

Is this near Jacksboro? Reason I ask is because that area had some of the worst Indian depredations in the state. Many early settlers had to 'fort up' at old fort Richardson, when the Comanches would go on their raids, usually in the summer during a full moon. I used to hunt Wizard wells area. Had a few old rock chimneys on the place where houses once stood. I used my metal detector near one and found an old heavy, metal spoon with U.S. engraved on it. It was about a foot down under the dirt. It is old, and was issued at the fort back in the 1860s. Cool stuff you can find if you take the time.

I thought about restoring it but a lot of the lumber is rotted so I dropped it. I will be redoing the fireplace stone by making a barbeque pit out of it.
In the meantime...I've got plenty to do

Yes it's 5 miles outside of Jacksboro off 380. The old man I bought it from said his great grandpa used to tell him stories of the indian raids and that a favorite indian hiding spot was just beyond my property line. He said they would come down from OK to steal horses and cattle and if you got in their way you ended up with an arrow in your chest.

A - that's cool.

B - wait until it's nearly freezing. You know what's under those floor boards

B - That's what I thought but when I went rooting around...I got chased away by a badger...I would have preferred snakes...least I wouldn't have felt so bad killing them.

Awesome! Don't forget that some of that wood can be reclaimed and used for many rustic items as well.

Funny how those heavy stoves never make it far from homestead. We got a really old house on ours, always wondered when it was built. I was told it was the original Paramore ranch house but I'm not sure if that's true. Has an awesome view.

Here's one that is way back in the middle of nowhere on our lease in Oklahoma.
