Got my first deer with my hand loads yesterday afternoon. I shot her a little further back than I should have but the 168gr Barnes tsx made her real dead right where she stood. Shot her at about 75 yards. Nothing overly impressive all the way around but I was still pretty happy to fill a tag and put some meat in the freezer with a round I loaded. exit wound was quarter sized. The back of her lungs were soup.

There's something more rewarding about hunting success when you've rolled your own!

Congratulation Doc. Nothing feels better than making a successful kill with a reload. The plan all came together. Now your hooked. Mark it down in your reloading log for future reference.

Great job! What caliber were you shooting? I can't remember the last time I killed a deer with a factory load.

Great job. Popped my first buck with more than 2 points last weekend with one of my handloads for my .243. 106 yard shot, so nothing impressive. Had to track the deer all of 2.3 feet. He had no shoulders or heart left.

Cingratulation Now you're gonna be hooked. I haven't killed a deer or any other animal for years with factory ammo.

I know the feeling. I started reloading this year for my ruger 77/357. I keep all my shots under 100 yards. I have killed everything I have shot at. I only shoot in the head. I have multiple hog kills, coyote, deer, and bobcats. Now I will start reloading for my 308. It gives me something to do while at home.

Thanks guys. I was shooting my .308. Definitely looking to try it again this weekend on a buck I've got my eye on.
