Thinking about a new build of a stand/rack predator gun. I guess im looking for fairly flat shooting due to possible night time shooting. It will have turrets on the scope but for those that know predator hunting know that shot time is limited and distance to shoot because of lighting is limited. Ive pretty much decided on something in 6mm. Im not so much worried about 1000 yards so I don't need the 105 gr bullets. To get some more speed I think I want to stick with 80-90 grainers with a harder typed bullet that might get lucky and smoke through thin animals. So...

243 vs 6mm Creedmoor?

Key Notes:
I don't forget my bullets at home
I don't want super light bullets, I want them to be what some call ethical to deer even though 55gr vmax works wonders
It will be a very very long time before I would shoot out a barrel because im not very tactical like that

Decisions

Honestly, either one will work fine. Technically, the 243 will hold about 2-4 grains more powder. You will gain about 50 fps, maybe 100 fps. They are both very similar though. The CM has the optimal 30 degree shoulder for accuracy with ease of feeding from a mag, so it's a toss up. Pick one, work up a good load, and practice with it, and I doubt you could tell the difference.

"I don't forget my bullets at home"- That's funny!!!

Both will work. The Creedmoor's geometry yields better consistency shot to shot.

12 ways to skin the cat. I would do a 6x47, it's super efficient but no better / no worse than those mentioned.

ford

chevy

no, ford....

CHEVY

FORD

you get the picture.

^^Another option^^

Give me the choice of a 6mm cartridge pushing a 90 gr between 2900 and 2930, or a 6mm pushing a 90 gr between 2870 and 2880, and I pick the latter.

Consistency trumps velocity.

A mere exchange of coin for a set of dies is all that would take. Where's the next fire?

Yeah, you do!!! It's a simple neck down of 6.5x47 brass to 6mm.

The 6.5x47 is the most consistent case I have ever shot. But for hunting purposes inside of 500 yards, you would not get the benefit of this case. It shines at longer ranges.
