I have a bunch of different caliber neck and FL dies, have pretty much gone to just the FL dies now.

NK sizing is starting to be a fading trend. You are not likely to find a nk sizing fan in any shooting comp from br to long range. The reason is reliability most use a bushing fl die to control nk tension and bump a minimal amount usually .001 for bolt guns. I've gone from fl to nk sizing back to fl length for reliability alone ,that and I couldn't shoot the difference. The real old benchrest guys using Wilson stuff still loading at the bench shooting 6ppc will still neck size only. Many have went to the 30br because they aren't as condition sensitive and they can load the nite before and just adjust the tuner. But it adds recoil and the 6ppc can shoot with it so some haven't converted (I probably should say the 30br can shoot with the 6ppc). Now...the guys who are serious about producing the lowest amount of runout aren't real crazy about a bushing die because it can introduce runout. They will typically buy 2 reamers...one for a chamber and one for a die (will be .001 smaller) and then have a custom die made. This prevents the bushing from causing runout. Majority however, do use a bushing FL sizer...neck sizing is dying as dee mentioned. Even if used in the same gun at some point you will have to bump the shoulders back a bit. The thought is if you are bumping them back .001-.003 everytime it will be much more consistent than running a neck die then bumping them back ever 3-8 firings.

That makes a lot of sense. Well said. But...though I'm getting old, I'm not an old benchrester. I think I'll stick with those Lee collet dies till I find something better. The bushing die was not, at least in my experience, better and it was a heck of a lot more money. The good news is that you can pull the bushing and use the die as a Body Die. That came in handy.
I was a tough sell on the Collet Dies. Took a long time before I got that first one. Now I'm glad I did.

When do you use a neck sizing die instead of Full length die? NEVER! I full length size everything, every time. And they all get a .003" bump on the shoulders. I want them to make all the velocity they can and I want them to chamber every time. I do not want to get a case stuck in a chamber after it has been fired. It's a terrible feeling to have to beat a bolt back with the palm of your hand. been there..done that

It's a terrible feeling to have to beat a bolt back with the palm of your hand. This. I used to be in the neck size camp, but have since come around and learned that full length sizing with a shoulder bump is a far better method. With neck sizing you work the brass less, but you also leave the case in the shape of the chamber - and that means that unless you chamber your shell in exactly the same orientation each and every time, you are introducing a variable that cannot be overcome. Granted, it doesn't make much difference at closer distances, but when you compound this with every other factor, at range it will make a difference. Of course I say this as I actually do kind of a hybrid of the two these days - I full length size with a shoulder bump, then run the shell through a Lee Collet neck sizing die to true the axis back up and reduce runout. An extra step, but one I don't have to do much and don't mind doing.

I haven't had a case stick even one time since I started using the Lee collet dies. That might be an issue if I was loading really hot, but I do load near max in a couple of calibers and still no sticky cases. And I want the case to be the shape of the chamber.

I do both and after 3 or 4 neck sizes I have to FL size or my bolt gets sticky.
