The settlement involves a class action suit brought in 2013 by Ian Pollard of Concordia, Missouri, who claimed his Remington 700 rifle fired on multiple occasions without the trigger being pulled. Multiple times? I don't think Ian has a whole lot going on between the ears.

I have one Rem 700 action and bolt, wearing a Timney.
Don't think I qualify.

Down to 2 Remmy 700s, probably soon be down to 1 and it ain't going anywhere anytime soon. But will say my favorite Remmy Bolt action rifles are 788s.

I have a 700 CDL and it is the best rifle I have ever had.

I've got 3 700's all with their original triggers. I've never had a problem with one but I've been wanting to change them over to timneys anyways. I'll just tell the chief financial officer it makes them safer for the grandsons.
I've got a feeling that I'd better get them ordered because Timney is gonna get busy!

Not a rifle. I have my great grandfather's model 11 shotgun I hunted with as a teenager until it would go full auto. Later I took it to a gunsmith and had him fix the auto problem, blue and put a new butt stock on. He said at some point the sear lever broke and it was replaced with about a sixteen penny nail which finally gave out. I will not blame Remington for that.
I have a old model 66 which has never given me a problem.

An old Remington 552 Speedmaster. I bought a 597 when they first came out, and it was a jamomatic. Sold it at a yardsale. Bought my dad a 700, and the bolt knob broke off. Will never buy another Remington rifle. I have two Remington Shotguns, a mid 90s 870 Express and a 2002 11/87 Premier light contour. They are both outstanding firearms.

Decent guns with great aftermarket support, but I'm not a fan of the cast bolt handles. I do a lot of tactical bolt knobs on 700's and in about 80% of them, turning the bolt knob down will result in hitting a void in the casting. In most cases it will never cause a problem, but I'd hate to think of really needing a quick followup shot and having my bolt knob break off in my hand. Also, and this was a looong time ago (1975'ish), I was a wide-eyed 10 year-old going on a hunt put on by a group of guys that took kids hunting for the first time. Any kid that didn't have a hunting rifle could pick one out of the ones available from the sponsors. I picked out a nice Remington 700 in .243 because it was gorgeous and it made me feel like a big game hunting fool. We all had to sight in our guns and after I fired one round on the range, the bolt handle broke loose from the body, so I couldn't eject the fired case. There was already more kids than there was guns. so I ended up missing my first deer hunt due to a POS Remington. I know it was a fluke, and I've worked on and shot hundreds of Remingtons since then, but it left a bad taste in my mouth for years and years. I still don't own one and never have.

Nope. I'm a savage guy. Always have been. Got a 99 that in 60+ years has never let me, my dad, or my great grandfather down. And I've got a 111 that I expect to do the same.

OwnED several. Some shot sweet and some not so much. Never was a fan if any of their triggers. Only bolt action center fire rifles I own now are Tikkas.

I've owned a lot of 700s and have only had a single malfunction. It was on a predator hunt and the rifle discharged when I pushed the safety forward. But....it was a trigger that I had paid a gunsmith to "rework" so I can't blame Remington for the missed song dog.

The 597 is a better club than a rifle. I appologized to my 10/22 for cheating on it, and vowed to never do it again.

....according to my attorney some years ago, the only bullet hole in the ceiling of the Travis County Courthouse, is from a Remington 700. Seems it was loaded, safety on, and accidentally bumped off the evidence table by some one walking past it and slid onto the floor ... discharging into the ceiling without further injuring anyone, during testimony about the guns previous discharge with the safety on and a round in the chamber ....and wounding the plaintiffs son....Just Sayin in the unlikely event that I would ever buy a Remington 700 again as I owned a couple in the late 60's and early '70's, it would never have a bullet in the chamber until I put a new trigger in it. I did own a Remington Model 710 one time for about 2-3 weeks too...and severely regret selling the Stephens 200 I traded the 710 off on....and was more than willing to lose money on that trade into the Stephens. I have 2, one is inherited from my dad and one was my first center fire hunting rifle. Both are .30-06, I replaced the triggers in both with Timney triggers. My youngest daughter now claims the latter as she took her first and subsequent deer with it. I shoot Tikka and Browning now. At this moment I am at my stand with the T3 '06. Life is good.

Interesting... My stepdad has a 700 that's has done this twice. Once my mom went to unload it, flicking the safety off and the gun went off, luckily it was pointed into a bed in the bunkhouse. It blew a pretty good size hole in the bed. For years we had given her hell saying you must have pulled the trigger. The other time my stepbrother and I were spotting and stalking hogs, and walked up on a group. When he went to flick the safety off the gun went off and split his finger open pretty good due to the recoil and the way he was holding it at the time.

I ask because this happens often enough it seems that I don't buy the idea that every rifle this has happened to has had a "trigger job".

Talked to him earlier after I read this. Nothing was done to the gun prior to these two malfunctions. After the one with my stepbrother (his son) it was all reworked and he hasn't had an issue since. I've got a 700 BDL I should have reworked. I haven't shot it in several years, but I haven't had an issue with it. I definitely don't want to find out the hard way. Interesting...
