i have 2 shooting lanes at my lease!!! I have a feeder on one and hand corn the other!!! I notice that the mature bucks generally go to the hand corn site!!!

I've been hand throwing this year with great success. I got tired of feeding hogs from the feeder, they were bedding down near feeder waiting for it to go off! Didn't see a single deer last year at feeder. This year I've only bought 2 bags of corn! I go out the day before and hand throw in pasture and small piles in different areas. The hogs have moved on to other feeders and I've got deer! I do miss hearing that feeder go off though...

I use a spreader on my Jeep. As long as there is spread corn available I might as well turn the spin feeders off.

We use road feeders on our jeeps to corn our shooting lanes the night we get there and keep corn on the ground the whole time we are there. It draws more deer. Timer feeders draw deer due to the deer learning when the feeder goes off and of course they smell the corn. When you put a lot more corn on the ground over a large spread out area around your stand and shooting lanes, the corn scent is much stronger and carries much farther. This also depends on your deer density in your area. We hunt an area that has a high density and it makes a big difference. Areas with low density not near as much. It definitely helps in high pressure areas where deer are skittish of feeders as referenced already above. Some deer will not come to a feeder in these areas. We hunted on a place that the corn piled under our feeders, but the corn we spread in our cuts would be gone the next day. The other advantage is the deer will at least stop for a minute if passing through on a trail and present a shot in the lane.
