It really was. I have become so burned out with whitetail hunting and the "is it high fenced/low fence/protein fed what did it score/how old was he/if he woulda had another year yadda yadda" that bird hunting was really the only thing I was enjoying any more

This hunt was exactly what I needed to renew my sense of adventure. I spent a small fortune on gear for this hunt but just the prep and planning was a blast. A few days before season it was like I was 12 years old again the morning before opening day.

The style of hunting is more my speed with walking, glassing and talking vs. the be quiet and still type of hunting I'm used to.

I will still enjoy shooting whitetail especially with my bow, but now it's gonna be something I do to pass the time between mule deer season

Yeah but I really enjoy carrying a rifle, glassing the hills and hearing the boom of the hot iron

Yep and being able to see 1/2 - 3/4 mile in all directions makes it more fun too. I hate hunting in the hill country now and I would go nuts if I had to stare down senderos for hours at a time. Hopefully someday I can find a nice West Texas lease to hunt on.

Lol, we could see 5-15 miles in each direction in most places. Further in some places

Gods country. I couldnt believe how much country you could see at one time. A good pair of binoculars is a must. I know several times while txtrophy85 and I were walking he would stop and ask this old man if i needed to rest awhile.
