The attorney that did your trust should be able to answer all your questions about who signs and notary. It should clearly state on the signature pages who signs what line and where if not then ask them to designate the signature lines more clearly. I can answer the FORM 1 question but are you building a suppressor I am assuming or buying a suppressor?

Building a suppressor and I didnt have a attorney prepare it did the 199trust route Did you like 199 trust? I am in the process of buying a suppressor and trying to decide how to open up a gun trust. A lawyer quoted me 300 dollars, silencer shop also has an online form for around 130. Wad the 199 trust easy to use?

I'm pretty glad I used a lawyer. I just call him up anytime I have a question about how something is supposed to be.

Don't you know that if you don't use an attorney the ATF will bust in your door, shoot your dog, and you'll end up in the pokey for 10 years?!?!

I used them and yes they are quick, answered all my questions and very easy to use. As for signatures, 199 trust can answer those questions as well. You will need 2 witnessess to sign when you get it Notorized and no one signs until you're in front of the Notary.

A notary is THE witness. Why would a trust require other witnesses as well as a notary?
You will have to scan the trust and send it electronically when you fill out the Form 1 on the ATF website. I think the files must be less than 3MB so you might have to break it up into parts if you don't have a way to shrink the whole thing. I did mine as pdf files and had to split it up into 3 parts since I don't have a way to shrink the large file. Didn't have a problem getting mine approved.

All y'all getting those fill-in-the-blank trusts are braver than I am...I started to go that route, but just a little bit of research showed me that the extra $150 to $200 it costs to have an NFA trust prepared by a licensed attorney is money well spent. A legitimate attorney familiar with NFA trusts should answer all questions you have, present and future, as part of the cost of the trust and most will review your Form 1 before submitting it. The extra cost is worth the peace of mind when you consider the alternatives.

These are all questions you should be asking your lawyer that prepared your trust. Don't take someone on the forum's word on it. Your felony defense can't be "Bob on the forum said it was OK." Because then you're in trouble and now Bob is in trouble. Yes you need to carry a full copy of the trust with the nfa item.

I have talked with other people and they say the attorneys do the same thing, they take a template and insert your info. To my knowledge, the only difference is you can sue an attorney if they mess up where as you are S.O.L. if you do it wrong on your own.

To my knowledge, the only difference is you can sue an attorney if they mess up where as you are S.O.L. if you do it wrong on your own. I've found several attorneys in Texas that will do an NFA trust for $300, answer any questions you have, stand by you and the trust into the future, and help with or review the forms to be filed. Once engaged to do the work, these attorneys are not practicing law without a license as it appears many of the on-line vendors may be doing. While I agree that an attorney worth his salt would probably be "filling in the blanks" based on experience and expertise, there are more differences between going with an attorney for the trust and going the cheap route than being able to sue the attorney or simply being SOL. With the proposed rule change coming for NFA trusts that would require a CLEO signature and the anti-gun mood growing in this country, I'm not prepared to leave my future well being subject to saving $200 on a properly completed NFA trust. That's an unacceptable level of risk for me. It's only $200...

In my opinion, if you can afford NFA stuff then you can afford the one time cost of a trust. That's why I forked over my $300 when I set mine up initially. I'm sure the online stuff is fine most of the time but I didn't want to risk it as I planned on acquiring several NFA items.

Why would anybody spend $300 for a trust document? I paid $30 for the software and have done several. The lawyers don't want you to know that they use the same software.

Same reason some people pay $100s to file their tax vs doing it yourself for $50. I did mine on Quicken Willmaker but my dad wasn't 100% on board so we paid an attorney $400. The two documents are identicle in verbiage.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

I don't need to ask questions to strangers about my NFA stuff and get 3 different opinions. I can call my lawyer and get a correct answer right away. I paid him for a reason. Any changes are free. Anything added is free. Any questions is free. He'll even change my Schedule A and send me an updated version if I want him to. Any legal issues, I call him and he knows what he's defending since he wrote it. If you guys go the cheap route, then that's your choice. I'm not going to tell anyone what to do. But I see it like buying a Rolls Royce and then paying Jiffy Lube to do all the maintenance on it.
