Decided to hunt with a pistol (S&W Mod 57, .41 Mag, 6-1/2" Barrel, Open Sights) Saturday afternoon. This guy shows up at the feeder (100 yds downrange)I am no Elmer Keith, so let him pass.
Looks to be a nice 8 with antlers 3" or so outside his ears. C'est La Vie!

If you were hunting with a pistol, why didn't you set up closer to the feeder so you could make a shot? Or did you just pour out some chum closer to your position? Just curious...

Nice looking buck up

I had a doe at 50 yards the other day. That was my max comfortable distance with the pistol I had on me. I thought she was going to keep getting closer, but she changed course and walked back into the woods. Doh!

To tell the truth, I took a doe Saturday morning (Picture attached)and I was tuckered out from the cleaning/skinning/quartering. It is a pretty common occurance for deer to pass about 50 yards from this blind and circle back to the feeder. The buck in the picture did that but I was half asleep and not ready when he passed by.

Makes since. I had a blind once on a rocky, cedar covered ridge, deer crossed about 20' from it on the way to the feeder below.
