Can killed this deer last night. The right eye was an open wound. The fur around the antlers is rubbed off and it appears that he did not drop his antlers this last year. I'd been seeing this deer on my trail cameras for the last two years. I went back to Oct of 2013 and found the two and the top of the page (date is off). Can someone tell me what this is or if they have ever seen anything like it?

I bet it has an antler growing down and into the eye socket from inside. May be pretty cool once you do a euro on it.

Weird that the wound still has wet blood from an old injury? Also, his rack looks totalky differentfrom the old pics. What makes u think hedidnt lose his antlers?

Maybe he just got into a fight this season and got his eye gouged.

Based on the brow tines and where they come off the bases it looks like a different deer to me. Th eye damage looks like it may be from a fight.

Looks like the same deer but he must have dropped his antlers and grew new ones.

It looks like you're right about him dropping his antlers upon closer inspection. This is the same deer. The later trail camera pictures of him a couple days later have the large growth knocked off. The pictures from the side look the same. I'll post more pictures.

These pictures are from a few days after the "growth" appeared. It appears there is also a wound on his right shoulder in one of the pictures. *****The date is off on the photos.

I called a game warden out to take a look. He said he'd send pictures off to the biologist and let me know what they think. I'll update once I get some more info.

Looks like different deer .

I still believe it's the same deer. I first noticed the problem with the eye last year. Its left antler had a small crab claw on it last year, but the you can see that the right eye is messed up in those pictures, too. In the trail cam pictures from this year you can see that the left antler does not have the crab claw, but the right eye.......still messed up. The antlers are still configured pretty much the same, though. The second set of trail cam pictures I posted on 11/27/2014, are from this year. The other trail cam pictures are from last year.

man, that is weird- they look different to me too except the pic with "the eye" . That is nasty though.

My first thought was that the 'growth' was a mesquite limb that impaled his eyeball.

Could have punched it into the socket while running full tilt for some reason.
