Just picked up a Remington 700 and don't see an adjustment screw on the outside. Figured I'd ask in case some of you know. It's at over 5 lbs.

The newer rifles should have the X-Mark Pro adjustable. The earliest X-Marks were not adjustable. The new trigger is not bad IMO, but I'd suggest a new spring from Ernie the Gunsmith.

Forgot to mention that you may have to dig some crap out of the adjustment screw. Not too difficult with a dental pick or something like that.

It doesn't have a screw on the trigger itself. It does have an allen screw on the front of the trigger asembly. Is it okay to turn that one? I figure it must be or else they would have hidden it but just want to make sure.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but that's probably the kind of thing I would have researched before I bought it. There should be adjustment instructions on Remington's website.

Got it. It was easy. That was the right screw. I lowered it to right around 3 lbs.

Make sure you bounce the butt on the floor with the trigger coocked and "Live" several times, then cycle the bolt and safety back and forth 6-8 times an bounce rthe butt again...and slowly lift the bolt to see if the sear has moved any at all and will allow an accidental discharge...and repeat it the sequence again a time or two and take the safety on & off same way to see if the tigger will fire. It'll scare the poo Wah out of you when a live round goes off when you open the bolt or take the safety off to open the bolt to unload it...and don't ask me how I know.

Not on a Remmy but I had a commercial Mauser go off many years ago talking to my hunt buddy back to back facing away from each other as we got ready to get in the truck...I thought he was gonna make ride in the bed in the rain all the way back to Dallas from the lease we had near Lawn, just east of Winters.

Id throw away that trigger and put a timney in. Too much bad press for me on that trigger going off when taking the gun off safety

The X-Mark triggers do not have a bad rep like the original triggers on the 700s. There was a recall a while back but that's it.

Another check I would perform is to cycle the bolt, engage the safety, pull the trigger with some effort, and then disengage the safety. It should hold, of course, and the pull should still be about the same as usual.

I got mine from 4.12 to 2.12 on the new 30-06. Not too bad.

If you plan to go lower buy a trigger that was designed for sub 3lbs. There is a reason why that screw has Loktite on it.
