Got two last night in Hopkins county did not hesitate when they came out. I would definitely shoot a coyote over a deer anytime

Well, I'll go against the grain and tell you I don't except maybe during the middle of the day riding around or something. We see them almost every hunt but I don't think they're having a terrible impact on our deer, I saw more fawns last week with a lot of twins than I've seen in quite some time. With all of the smaller easier to catch prey running around I've got to believe that deer will be low on the priority list. This is in deep S TX.

What I love doing is spending a few days in the spring and fall with the Foxpro and take out as many as I can, we have been very successful doing this.

I popped one that was dumb enough to run by my stand at 10 yards... he stopped to see what moved in the window....and bang!
I will shoot a coyote every time I see one if it presents a shot.
We have a ton of tracks and hear them all the time...we need to shoot more off our place.

How do you guys hunt coyotes?? I have had a few show up on a TC and I hear them almost every time I am at my lease. I bought a predator call but have not used it yet. Do they really seem to work because if they do I may make a trip up and only hunt coyotes. Do you guys hunt them at night or during the day??

Yes, we have killed 6 in the last week, all singles. We don't usually have many coyotes. We haven't noticed any increase in rabbits, etc. so not sure where they came from or why they're there this year. confused2

Ill shoot every one of them that gives me the chance.... that said we have 3-4 foot grass over most of the property even out of 10-12 foot elevated stands you cant get a shot unless they are in a sendero and during day light hours they only cross senderos. So you either have to be really fast or already have the gun out the window waiting which we typically don't do.

Shoot every one every chance you get. Nothing will improve your deer herd faster.

I agree with quitshootinyoungbucks.....

"When you're sitting there and you let a coyote go by, plan on sitting there in 5-6 years thinking 'I wonder where that mature buck is that I should be seeing'. Fawn deer is a coyote's favorite food; if you're not shooting coyotes you're doing it wrong."

Yes, the calls really work. I use a FoxPro and love it. I like to hunt them in the early morning and evening. Night time hunts are very productive as well but you sometimes need help running the spot light unless you have the NV equipment. When at deer camp I will call in the middle of the day and have pretty good success.

Just get out there and do some calling. Don't worry about not know if your doing it right or not, the coyotes will teach you and it will be frustrating at times but hang in there. It will be some of the best hunting you ever do.

Shot 6 in November. I enjoy shooting yotes as much as about anything, and shoot them on sight. Especially after watching 3 leave a dead cow they were eating on to chase deer that came out 400 yards away.
