 Shot my first..

..hooded merganser! Gonna mount this guy for sure! I watched the drake and hen fly around my spread then land about 150 yards away. They started to swim the bankline headed the opposite direction so I just figured it was a lost cause and diverted my attention back to my spread. A few minutes later some teal come soaring in doing mach 1 and I do my civic duty and proceed to unload on them. A few seconds later I catch movement out of the corner of my eye, the two hoodies were headed right for me. All I had was one shell left in the chamber so I picked out the drake and hoped for a good shot. Dropped him.

Nice! Mounting them is about the only good use... they do not make very good table fare.
Wasn't born in Texas, but I got there as fast as I could.

Congrats! One of the coolest mounts there are IMO especially in a sitting or swimming pose.

My very first two ducks were a pair of hooded mergansers. Made a nice mount.

Haha that's funny jacob, MY very first 2 ducks were also a pair of Hooded mergansers. I've got the drake in the freezer right now! Congratulations browning

I tried to eat the first one I shot about twenty years ago. I am not much on mounts so I have not shot another one since. They are TERRIBLE
