Ok, I may look like a fool asking this, but everyone has to start somewhere. I'm new to deer hunting and have no idea how to find a place/lease to hunt deer without knowing a person or knowing a person that knows a person, etc. Any recommendations? I am absolutely looking forward to establishing and feeding a deer hunting addiction. Thanks.

check with local feed stores in the areas your interested in hunting, many times they will have an inside track to a land owner looking to lease

A little late to be looking for a lease this year. Try public land this year, and start looking for a lease in the spring.

I would look in as many ways as possible. Keep an eye on the land and leases section here, craiglist, tell everyone you know (whether they hunt or not, they may know someone who does) that you're looking, if you know what area you'd prefer I'd visit it and let all the locals you come across know you are looking maybe even make a simple ad you can post up at feed stores, cafes, etc. I found my new lease on leasehunter.com, you don't have to pay until you find a place you are interested in and want to contact the person listing it. So you can browse the listings for free but must pay (I think it's less that $20 for 6 months) to get the contact information.
Good luck and be persistent, it may take a while but there are openings out there if you put in the work to find them. Once you find an opening that you're are interested in, you have to act fast because they don't last long. Have your money ready, and be ready to go look it over on the spur of the moment.

Check out public land at least for the rest of this year. Make friends on the forum. Decide what counties you'd be interested in hunting and then check the chambers of commerce and local papers. Eventually you'll find a pot on a good lease.

I recommend something different. Go to the outfitters section and find someone advertising doe hunts. Go on one of those and absorb as much knowledge as you can.
