I went fishing this evening to a little pond that hardly gets any traffic and there was a lone duck on the pond. I snuck up as stealthy as I could carrying all my gear, but it didn't take long for it to fly off. I got a good look at it and it looked like a penguin to me (the coloration, not the body shape and size). Ive googled as best i know how and i can only find a picture but not an ID of what it is.

So what is this?

I'd say fairly common on big water such as larger lakes and the bays along the gulf coast. Only have seen a handful of ponds that hold several.

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting.......holy kaka.....What a Ride!

Glad I saw this post, shot one of these this morning in Waco but wasn't sure if it was a Bufflehead or not.
