That's the most pitiful story I've ever read on here. Hard to describe a more miserable human being. Makes you wonder how anyone could wind up like that.

My place is in old German sheep country. (Fbg.) Not many old timers left, but for now it's still understood that a sheep chasing dog is a dead dog, so I've never had a problem.

Saw some running cows in that field with the big pond off 95 this afternoon. There was a B&W one in that group.

I'm a dog person but you gotta do what you gotta do. We had a pack of 7 feral dogs running on one property that I hunt and watched them chasing deer like crazy, more than once. Not having that. There are two less now, and the .17 will bark again if another is seen. Just the way it is. There are no owners for these dogs, they are very feral and chasing/killing deer is no weno.

I have three dogs that frequent my place. They piss on my corn and run deer all over my 300 acres. They belong to my neighbor whom is a third generation farmer that sold me the ranch. They annoy me but I would never smoke em or bring it up with the gentleman. Its been their way of life out there. I'm hoping they will push a big one by me.

I dislike this subject because it hits close to home. I own my place and have for over 30 years. But, I don't live there. It is our weekend home away from home and being retired, I now spend time there during the week. Off and own, I've had dog problems for years. I've shot dogs and hate it. I resent the rudeness of people who let their dogs run on other peoples places. They have screwed up more than one hunt for me. One year, I saw 3 deer on my place during the entire season. Two were being chased by dogs. The only tracks under my feeders were lots of dog tracks. I've seen them running my horses and cattle. I hate it! I don't always shoot them but have been accused of shooting dogs that I didn't. There are hard feelings toward me from one neighbor who thinks I shot their dog that I know nothing about.

Last year, while hunting, I saw 2 beautiful almost pure white German Shepherds. They were wearing big red collars so I figured they had strayed and wouldn't be back. Not so. They are back and I see them on game cams. I asked one neighbor about them who advised to shoot them but don't get close. They have bitten several local people but nobody seems to know who owns them. Great; just great.

I have 4 16 year olds that I take hunting. I have told them to be very careful and to shoot every damn dog they see. I doubt that they will. They all have dogs at home.

I'm not gun happy. I'm the guy that doesn't shoot coyotes or anything that I'm not going to eat unless it becomes a problem. And, I've never seen coyotes, cats or coons become a real problem.

Rant over.

Most of all of this translates into a people problem. Dogs got in this world because some dog owner was not responsible enough to have their dog neutered or spayed. Most of the time we don't have a dog problem, it is a people problem. Unfortunately about the only way to take care of it is to do away with the dog.

Here people move into the apartments where they can't keep their pets so they just turn them loose there so they know they're close..... results in a lot of strays and what used to be 20-30 has dwindled down to a handful. If someone shoots one in the middle of town chances are really good no one would bat an eye.

Question when y'all are saying running deer are hall meanning running them by sight or are they actively useimg there nose to trail them?
I'm just having a hard time thinking this many dogs that are loose of all different breeds could trail a deer very far ,
People pay good money for tracking dogs
Just simple question
I'm all for sss of stray dogs or ones that the owners have been warned but first time offenders or just a passing through dog that's not bothering any thing is differnt

All dogs use their nose, their eyes, and their ears. Some are better than others. A lot of breeds and muts don't get enough credit for what they CAN do in the field if they are trained what to do. Feral dogs don't need to be trained, when their bellies are empty they adapt to whatever they have to do to put food in their bellies, their instincts kick in. Whenever feral dogs develop the pack mentality in order to survive it's a different ball game. Some of these packs can be damn mean, you're not going to whistle at them or baby talk them so they can come to you for a treat. Weiner dogs can be good tracking dogs if you train them. A hunting buddy of my Dad had a Siamese cat that would not only trail a wounded deer but would jump on it like a mountain lion when he found it. A pack of hungry feral dogs can be damn nasty. I hate shooting dogs, but when I watch them chasing deer all over the place they have to be tended to. I wish people would stop dumping their unwanted dogs at the end of our county road, but they won't. So then they become our problem. It only takes one dog with a good nose or good eyes and the rest will follow in the chase. They do more damage to deer than they do pigs because deer are easier to kill, especially fawns.

its case by case... but unless it looks like a "house dog" i'm hammering it...

had a pack of 6 this year on the ranch. Running shots at 400+ didn't get any but they haven't been back.

I have 2 dogs and grew up with dogs... I love them but you gotta do what u gotta do

as for breeds not being able to trail. They all can to one degree or another... I had a yorkie that was an AMAZING squirrel dog. he would also sneak up on dove in low hanging branches in the bushes of our back yard and jump up at catch them... I saw him do it twice and there were always dead birds around when we had him

I feel your pain man.

These get a pass from me. The LO has asked that I just let them be because they are next door neighbors.
Nothing I can do about them.

There's only 2 here but I see 4 of them running together at least once a week.
