Any rutting in south Texas yet?

If you want some friendly advice, get a haircut and take a bath. You wouldn't get hassled so much.

That region covers a lot of territory but generally you can draw a line anything south of hwy 90 and bordering those eastern counties along the coast.
You'll get a lot of arguements but that is just speaking in general terms.
The rut usually starts around Thanksgiving along the northern part closer to hwy 90, and the more south you go it gets later as around Christmas and on into January in deep south Texas.
The rut is close, but yet to come in most of south Texas.

I live a bit north of SA and we have tons of deer in our neighborhood. Thanksgiving is the usual rut here. Saw a big 10 pushing a doe last night, so its pretty much on schedule. Out further west at the ranch it usually hits a few weeks later. I'd think south TX is still at least a few weeks off as well.

Hunted Frio County line between Devine and Pearsall this weekend Saturday and Sunday. Saw two bucks chasing. several does running, but also saw bucks still in bachelor groups and they did not push each other off the feeder or show any sideways walking or tilting ears back etc... So at our place near Pearsall some early signs of the rut but probably 7-10 days away from full blown rut.

Good Luck up

In south eastern Atascoss county most Bucks necks are swollen. What does that mean? Has our rut started?

I was hunting in Cotulla this past weekend and had a young 12 aggravating a doe until a massive 9 came out and put a stop to his shenanigans. The 9 then started trailing after the doe but wasn't too serious about it and stopped after about 5 min.

I'm fairly close to your location, and for the first time this season I saw a buck Monday evening that was staying really close to a doe. She spooked, and the buck put his nose to the ground and took off right after her.

Pearsall should be full swing around the 10th-12th of December.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I've read online from some places that predict rut activity that this year will be an early rut. About a week or 2 early? Any of yall throughout Texas noticed the rut coming early this year as compared to other years? If so how early?

Just got back from Cotulla yesterday and the rut is kicking in. I was able to get a 13 pt with a droptine, mark that one off the bucket list. My fiancé never gets excited seeing big deer as shes been around them all her life. We were on the back end of her place when we topped a rise and she yelled "Holy S**t, a shooter". About 200 yds below us was a STUD. He had 12 pts and a 24-26in spread. Easily a 180 class deer BUT on the other side of the fence, a high fence. We watched him for about an hour looking for a hole in the fence so he could breed one of the does at the feeder. On the way back to the house for more gas in the ranger, we had a huge 9 almost jump in with us. He was hot on a does trail, he paid us no mind. We're headed back tomorrow and hope to get her one.
