Are the DPMS lite hunter in 243 any good? Is there another company besides armalite that makes a 243 ar-10?

Can't answer about .243 but I have a DPMS in 6.5 Creedmoor and I'm very satisfied...

I don't own one, but have considered getting one. Do a Google search: the reviews I have read folks claim they are happy with them, and that they are accurate and reliable.

I took delivery on a DPMS Lite Hunter in .243 earlier this month. It is a pleasure to find a big AR that comes in at around 8 lbs, very much like a normal bolt action sporter. I topped it with a Bushnell Elite 4200 3x9 scope.

I've only just begun to work up some loads. I envision this as a hog/coyote/deer/plinking outfit, so I've chosen two bullets for preliminary work: Speer 100 gr BTSP and Nosler 100 gr Solid Base (a discontinued bullet, but a fine proven performer). After shooting some anemic factory Remington 100 CoreLokts (2714 fps!!!???), I've worked up to around 2950 fps with WW760 with 1-1.5" groups. Yesterday, I loaded a series of rounds using increasing doses of H-450. I just need to get some nice weather and try them here at my range. In all of my .243 bolt guns, I can easily achieve 3000 fps with several 100 gr loads, but with the AR, I worry a bit about port pressure and thus won't be so anal about top velocity.

The DPMS trigger has been an unexpected surprise. It is a two-stage outfit, and although it will never remind you of an aftermarket Gisselle, it seems more than satisfactory with only just a hair of creep before breaking. No one will ever mistake an AR as a target gun anyway, so I may try to live with the factory trigger, at least for a little while.

Mostly however, I'm pleased with the .243's light weight. What sadist ever claimed that an AR--already unwieldy as it is--MUST weigh 14-17 lbs, all-up?

Saw an Armalite .243 at CDNN for $999.00. Seems like a good price. I believe the Lite Hunter has a carbon fiber hand guard to trim weight. With the savings you could afford to change a few things out.
