Hey y'all, I'm in the military and just got stationed in Corpus Christi. Lookin for some good places to hunt in the area without having to lease or pay an arm n leg. Thanks!

welcome Texas is 97% or more private owned lands. So leasing is the norm for most hunting here. Next best choice is public hunting via draw system on WMA, all of the WT draws have taken place for this year. Next best bet will the large Public Land areas in East Texas. What are you looking to hunt?

Hobbles, I am in the same boat. I am a veteran, and I am looking for a hunting buddy in Corpus. I think we can at least try to talk some land owner into letting us "help" with their feral pig problem.
i have lived here since 2008, and have only hunted one season. Each season I intended on hunting, and each season my hopes fell as there is very little area to hunt on the basic hunting licence alone.
Send me a message, and hopefully we can brainstorm an idea to get out and do some hunting!
Take care,-Rob

NAS Kingsville and Corpus Christi have an air field near Orange Grove that you can hunt, check with MWR. also if you want to drive to San Antonio, Camp Bullis has lots of hunting check with MWR as well!

I check with them, (http://www.cnic.navy.mil/regions/cnrse/i...IE_Hunting.html)

They want you to pay $300 for a permit.
I am beginning to believe the laws are being made for rich men.
This whole thing is very frustrating the more I learn about Texas Hunting. I have a "super-combo" hunting licence and hunter education. This means I can hunt pretty much nowhere.
Very frustrating.

it's the entire laguna madre.

basically, look at the road that goes out to the island (358), and when you're on the JFK causeway, you can basically hunt any of that water. take a drive when you get down here... duck blinds everywhere. I Live in flour bluff, and every year see people wading out to their duck blinds from the road. I wouldn't recommend that.. it's "legal", but you have to make sure you're a certain distance away from any houses, and if you get too close, people will complain. not sure, but maybe 1000 yards? (total guess). if you have a boat, it really opens up some area to hunt.

night hawk bay, laguna, baffin bay, etc. tens of thousands of acres of duck hunting. I don't know anything about it, as I've never duck hunted at all.... it's public land, so once you build a blind, it's legal for someone else to hunt it. There's generally a code that most people won't hunt blinds that aren't their's, but it does happen.

everything in the red is legal (I think) there are duck blinds all over the place in those areas. as far as deer hunting, unless you want to spend some money, it's going to be tough to find a decent place.

Best duck hunting go to the mouth of Baffin.. Less pressure or even a little north of of Rockport

Hog and deer.
Aransas National Wildlife Refuge(gun is lottery, archery first come basics)

Also a couple other draw hunts in the area

most ducks I've ever seen was on the east side of the ICW up against the island just north of baffin. no idea how to even estimate how many there were. I'd have to guess 5-8 thousand. it was incredible

I've been out at least twice a week duck hunting thanks to this info, thank you! I'm also seeing deer sign, waves and waves of ducks, some geese, and some woodcock/ snipe and dove.
