This year is my first year to hunt and I have a few questions. I have a feeder set up where I am hunting but am unsure of what time/times for the feeder to throw corn. I am only seeing deer coming in at night on camera in between 8pm-4am very rarely are they there within shooting hours. So if if you guys could enlighten me as to what I need to do to get this show on the road it would be greatly appreciated. First feed time is 6am second is 5 pm for about 5sec a piece. I have had corn piling up for a while are they eating something else? I don't have a lot of time to be out there as I work in the oilfield and am rarely home to check on things and what not. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you are in acorn country the corn will pile up for another couple of weeks.

My feeder is set at 6:15am and 5pm also piling up and set to 1 sec. You are experiencing the same as many of the guys here are, deer just have a good amount of browse with good timed rains and a surprise huge amounts of acorns.

Best thing I could think to tell you is plan for all day hunts when you have the time to go, take a lunch and ride the long day out. I have seen more buck activity during shooting hrs from 9am-1pm in the last week to 10 days here.. Few of the bucks I see, stop for photos at a feeder, so you could have who knows what running just outside of TC range.

My guess is the same as others; too much food elsewhere this time of year. Hunt during the day and/or keep watching your camera to see if their patterns change

Never hunted that area , but believe you are kinda in the transition between oak and mesquite. Could very well be acorns.

Try filling a spray bottle with water and vanilla extract. Spray it all over your feeder legs and carry a coffee can of corn and chum a pile away from the feeder and spray on top of the pile.

Good luck. up

Same with us, they are still nocturnal but that could be due to the season starting off with a full moon. This weekend should be better and have them moving during the day. We will have a new moon, and cloud cover most of the weekend. I only feed 2 seconds on high @ 6:15am, when they start hitting feeders in late Dec and Jan I'll start feeding in the evening.

Not trying to tell you what to do, but if the field and oak trees are yours to hunt, I might try putting my feeder close to that tree line at top of picture. Just get it closer to some brush or cover.

Your feeder looks to out in the open IMO, but don't know for sure from the photo. I think I would have had the feeder in the edge of the opening just below the "B" in "blind" and the stand down by that silver looking thing, roof, oil tank? Cant tell what your property line is since it isn't marked.

Don't panic. The lease we are on now, we have been on for 6 years. This year is like no other year. All of our bucks have completely left the feeders, just too many acorn. We use spin feeders and gravity protein feeders. The corn is stacking up under all of our feeders the gold glow is so bright you can see it at night. I haven't had to fill the protein feeder in 3 weeks. Your deer are doing the same thing as all of the other deer. We get a good long cold snap and the deer will move back to the feeders. Good Luck!

welcome

Maybe move the feeder (this year??) toward the back right corner by the pond and trees. Opinions anybody?

As for limited or no activity at the feeder right now, as others have said, that will change soon enough. I am experiencing the same with acorns.

With the property line now there to see, MM idea may also work, if the trees around the pond are thicker cover, leave the blind where it is then.

If your talking upper right hand corner of pic, i think would be a good choice. Think you can draw them down the tree line.

Scout the trees to the south and east of your blind. Your feeder is too out in the open.deer wont be that far outin the open during daylight if they can help it. Look for trails, rubs, scrapes. That will tell you where to put your feeder. Dont put the feeder on the trails, but very close to them. Just going by the photo, you would do better swapping the feeder and blind locations, but just a photo can not give the whole picture. Need to scout.

Based on the picture, I would flip the feeder and blind location at a minimum. Get the blind away from the cover and try to set it where you can see more of the fence lines and cover areas. Keep the feeder on the edge of the woods. From the stand in the open, you might be able to get an idea of how the deer are traveling and if they are hitting the fields or going down the fences. Good luck up

As others have suggested put your blind where the feeder is and the feeder where the blind is. Then I would put another feeder up by the top tank where you can see both.

Where do you enter the property?

If you enter from the bottom make sure if you change feeder location you don't walk by it getting to the blind. You'll want to maybe walk down that left side fence line.
