I bought a Sig Sauer 716 Patrol from a dealer locally and the rifle does not cycle correctly. Mine cuts groves in the copper jacket of the bullet and cuts the brass shell casing so badly they are not re-loadable. The ejector pin was so stiff it gouged out a big divot on the rear of the shell casing. The ejector pin finally loosened up and cured itself. After 200 rounds with 6 jams that required a tool to clear I knew this rifle was going back to Sig. The rifle has bent several rounds trying to force the round into battery. The gun store is owned by friends of mine so I was able to test another Sig 716 and it was just as bad as mine. I read a review of this rifle after mine turned out to be so poorly built and the reviewer had to return the rifle before he could range test it. The rifle sent to him for review was cutting up the brass shell casing and the bullet copper jacket just like my Sig 716. Your quality control has to be the worst of the worst to send out a defective gun to a gun reviewer

The Sig 716 Patrol came back from Sig and they ruined the rifle. They reamed out the chamber so much you actually can move the 308 case around in the chamber. They must have had to make the chamber sloppy loose to keep from jamming and bending shell cases when the bolt slammed home. They also polished the feed ramp and took off metal so now the bullet point (175 gr SMK) hits the barrel outside of the chamber bending the bullet point as it is forced upward into the chamber. The rifle is totally ruined by Sig gunsmiths trying make a bad design work. Sig does not want to take responsibility for a poor design or their ruining the rifle. If you got a 716 Patrol that works, you are lucky. I should have stayed with Rock River products because all of them have worked without any issues for me. This includes DI and Gas Piston versions from Rock River. I thought I was moving up buying a Sig but was I ever wrong. Based on my personal experience with Sig and the 716 Patrol I will never buy a Sig product again. Buyer be ware! Sig said they changed the gas piston set up, worked the trigger, polished the feed ramp and chamber. It appears the bolt carrier group was changed out as well. I marked the bolt carrier and the mark was gone when the 716 came back. That is a lot of fix for a new rifle. I should have checked on line before buying the Sig 716 Patrol Rifle because there are numerous people who have had the same problems I did. The rifle was built October 2013. This was a major financial hit for me as these are going for $1900 plus tax. I burned up 200 rounds of ammo thinking it might break in which added to the cost of this mistake. Hope this keeps you from throwing away your money.

Wow that sucks sorry to hear. I was considering getting one of their precision models until I read the reviews. Picked up the new Wilson Combat 308 from Rays yesterday. Making it out to the range tomorrow to break her in.

Did you contact Sig again?

The dealer is working on a solution with Sig. They are a major dealer with high sales. I will post the outcome. If you call Sig they will tell you they will email the proper person at Sig and they will contact you. I have been told this 2 times and you never hear from anyone. It must be their way of getting you off the phone and hoping you will let it slide. If Sig was really interested taking care of their customers they would transfer your call to the correct department not BS you about an email and later getting a call from the right person to handle your complaint. All of my experiences with Sig have been very bad to date. The 716 is so bad I boxed it up and stored it away. What a waste of hard earned money.

Won't the dealer take care of you and exchange it for a different rifle or accept a return?

That will be a tough one. Just about every gun shop I know of has a no return policy on firearms. Once you purchase it it's yours, they may help with shipping and contact with the manufacturer but I have yet to find a retailer that will take a gun back. I'm sure others have had different results with retail gun purchases where the shop will take a gun back but I have yet to find one.

Very unfortunate about the SIG purchase, I'm sorry to hear that as I have always been a SIG fan but admittedly I have not purchased any of the newer offerings from them. I hope it all gets worked out.

Make enough noise, and they will get it sorted out.

Man hate to hear that. I took one and rebarreled it to a 22-243 and working on the cycle rate but has been a pretty solid gun thus far.

A reputable dealer will absolutely take back a malfunctioning firearm. Heck I bought a Benelli from bass pro once and it wouldn't cycle. I had to talk to a manager but they took it back and exchanged it. Don't let them get off with selling you a $2000 lemon. They can take it back but it's more paperwork for them.

Sorry to hear about your problems. The SIG 716 I purchased has been flawless for over 300 rounds. I noticed your were using 176s; after much experimentation I found the 155 AMAX with the plastic tip was more suited to the 716. No gouging of the jacket or shell casing.
I hate to ask, but did you completely strip and clean the rifle? From the factory, the Sig 716 has a thick protective coating on all the parts in the action: piston, gas valve, all parts of the bolt, and the tube. I spent quite a few hours completely cleaning all the parts and lubricating with a quality lube.

I have a couple thousand in each of our 716's never a FTF and very accurate, MOA, from a shelf high cap semi, I'll take that every time.

If you are still having trouble with Sig, I have some contacts there that would be glad to help. That's very odd for their CSR's to not follow-up and make things right very fast. They are the best in the business, tied with Henry, in my world.

Sorry to hear about your 716. Mine has worked like a champ! The stock trigger isn't very good. I replaced mine with a Timney and it rocks. No problems and very accurate.
