I am new on this forum and really enjoy all the topics. I have spent hours every night reading thru the various discussions. Keep posting all the good stuff! My question is: Is anyone hunting Navarro County, especially south of Corsicana? That is where my lease is and we are not seeing a lot of deer. I am just wondering how the rest of you folks are doing in that area. It's not that they aren't there at all, have seen some on the camera. But it has been very slow during day light hours in the blind. Hoping it will improve as the moon gets darker so they will feed during the day.

Hello

If you want some friendly advice, get a haircut and take a bath. You wouldn't get hassled so much.

Are you hunting by Streetman, Richland or Kirvin?

Howdy. Buddy of mine hunts the Trinity outside Corsicana and a double drop bruiser came off there last weekend. I do not know the hunter that killed it so can't post the pic.

I'm hunting near Dawson, off hwy 31. Saw a beautiful 10 point yesterday, he stood still long enough for anyone to get off a shot. Wouldn't you know, my rifle malfunctions, THREE times. Just clicked, no shot! I couldn't believe it. He got a whiff of something and took off. I was sick! Borrowed a friends gun and hope to see that buck Friday when I get to go back out there.

Tough luck on the gun malfunction.

Dawson.... Is there any historical marker or monument recognizing the 1968 Braniff mishap there?

I have not noticed one. But you sort of don't see markers most time. I'll pay more attention.

Dave if there is one I am not aware of it.

Lots of talk about that tragedy in the coffee shops. It is mostly forgotten but not around here.

I was in the 10th grade in 1968 and remember that the plane crash fell between the assassinations of M L King and Bobby Kennedy. Couple all that with the Tet Offensive and the riots at the Chicago Democratic Convention, I thought back then that 1968 was ushering in the beginning of the end of the American way of life. It just seemed that the U.S. was going straight down the tubes. Glad that fear was premature.....

BTW, when are you heading out Arizona way for your Kofa sheep hunt? I am green with envy, and it's been a long time since I've been green over anything. I know you have a proper rifle and binocular. How about a good spotter? You are welcome to borrow my Kowa Prominar 82 mm scope; it's heavy but optically awesome. I also have a massive 15x60 Docter binocular for a tripod, should you want to go that way. A light foam pad to sit on while you glass (an "a$$ gasket", as per a past guide) is a must-have, IME.

My Dad was on the jury that deliberated the case. It was an old 'Electra" aircraft, if I remember correctly.

I've heard there are some good deer in that area but coyotes, hogs, and road hunting keeps them pretty well nocturnal.
