I posted a while back about my wife showing some interest in hunting (vs. just sitting in the stand with me) this year. Back in September I picked up a Remington 700 22-250 bdl for her to learn to hunt with. Took her to the range a few times and got her comfortable with the gun and told her she was ready.

She's always been the animal lover and never wanted to shoot a "poor lil ol deer", but said she would shoot a hog, no problem. A couple of weeks before season, we see a nice 10 point headed to the ranch and she told me that he was big enough for her to shoot. I'm all kinds of excited, due to her saying she wouldn't ever shoot a deer. I've got a good 10 point on my game cam that I'm hoping to get her on, as her first deer.

Fast forward to this past weekend. We went and sat in the stand early Saturday morning. Turn the mr. buddy heater on and she passes out as usual. Just as its getting light out, I see a pig out of the corner of my eye and wake her up. Pig walks into the brush and I can hear it walking down a trail towards the feeder. I tell her to get ready and that the pig will be out in a few minutes. A few minutes goes by, which seems like an hour to me since she's never shot anything other than a target, and the pig finally walks out to the feeder. She gets on him, and asks when she's supposed to shoot. I tell her to stay on him and when he stands still long enough and turns broadside to slowly squeeze the trigger. She had a few chances, but she wasn't ready. Ok, fine. Take your time and when your ready, drop him. He finally stops right under the feeder, and she shoots him right in the shoulder. He hits the ground, gets up and runs 10 feet then flops back down and doesn't move. I still think I was more excited than she was, but she was pretty happy to say the least!

Sure wish her luck taking that buck!! Looks like a good 10.

Took me around 24 years to get my wife to take a deer, then last year out of the blue, I had a nice old buck show on the place (already used my tag). She decided this would be the 1 and only time she'd shoot a deer, next day she took him and was happier than I figured she'd be, getting that dude mounted and put on the wall. up She has helped me haul out many an elk though, so she loves the outdoors.

Hopefully your wife at her young age, will get hooked enough o be your best lifelong hunting "buddy" up

Thanks y'all. She's gone with me to the stand quite a bit, she' just didn't want to shoot anything. Don't know what changed her mind this year but I feel pretty lucky.

I hope she does too. Haven't seen him on cam in a while but he's still around somewhere. None of the other hunters have gotten him yet so he's probably out running after the ladies.
