Rick did it yet again for me, beating my 173" from last year.

Didn't happen the 1st day like last year, we had him 1st night, but passed thinking he was just a 160" and I wanted to beat last years. There was also a Booner we had seen off the property. I chased the Booner all week and then 6th day came back to shoot this one with Rick's help. It turned out much bigger than EVERYONE thought. Several others had passed him in archery.

Long story short I did have the Booner within 100 yards for 2 hours, but it was 20 yards over the wrong side of fence. frown Thrilled with this one as personal best and a drop tine kicker.

Congrats again on the buck. Not going to lie, when I first saw it I was thinking his left side would bring him down to upper 160s, then tack on the drop. Also know how deceiving pics of muleys can be & pics not doing them justice.

I still look at that video from day 1 and put him at 160 knowing what he actually scored on the ground day 6. laugh

funny story, I had been hunting 72 all by myself, Rick was helping Carl on the mountain. Night of Day 5 I went out to where he was showing and nothing. Starting to think I blew it and he was gone. Without much hope or other ideas I was going to same spot night Day 6. Rick and Carl were bored on mountain, so for first time all week decided to come down and glass for me about 2 miles away. I was about ready to setup where he had been earlier in week when Rick calls "get here now! droppy is 150 yards from us". laugh he had changed up coming out in field about half mile from earlier in week.

Deer were definitely covering a little distance at night during 2nd. A stud I found went about a mile to escape golf balls smacking him and he was down on winter range already. (I'm assuming yours was too)

Not a house it's a hay barn, and he cleared it. What your seeing in the back ground is a silage back and a big ridge

the owners have very large acreage and the mesa go up to top no houses. the borders of the property do have some ranchettes, so like anywhere you have to be careful with the background. you should never skylight a shot, but especially here that would be a no-no. although nothing in background as that's last thing I checked before shot, the nearest buildings are 1,600+ yards. you can disagree, but I conclude this was a 100% safe shot from tripod position shooting negative angle. it would be harder for me to make argument if I was shooting prone and had a slightly upward angle. just checked my iSnipe, drop at 1,600 yards is 100 feet.

sorry this post wasnt up when i wrote the last comment... hell of a buck, i thought you were shooting off the ground, not out of a tripod.

Who said I was upset? Everyone knows when I get upset. smile

I was shooting off a tripod, not from a tripod.

If you go far enough, there will be buildings behind every shot. 1,600 yards is a safe distance for a negative angle shot IMHO.

Congratulations, that buck is going to make a great mount. Who is the outfitter that you are hunting with? How hard is it to get a tag?

Eddie

This year was pretty much like a lease and I didn't have a guide. There are tags to draw and also some landowner for deer. Elk tags are easy to get.

thats a awesome video Rob. And trust me guys, I've been running hunts down there for 7 years now and no one is more careful than Rob. The building in the back ground are almost a half mile away, just deceiving in the video. Great buck and good hunt, you defiantly earned that one. Can't wait to get him mounted for you, he's gonna look great next to you big buck from last year
