Any advice? My wife and I both drew tags for a late January antlerless/spike hunt?
God Bless Texas!!! Godspeed our Military!

It will all depend on the water level.

Lots of deer there. Would try and find something on edge of clearing or field. That late in season they tend to be active mostly right before dark.

I have hunted (bow) there in my younger years and didn't care for it. Real thick and very hard to pattern deer. I know there have been a few nice bucks killed there, mainly by youth during youth rifle season which I believe falls during prime rutting time there. Nice area, just don't expect much and you won't be disappointed.
How come everybody I meet is a deer hunting expert?

Hunted there years ago and was by drawn compartment. The ones running the hunt gave good tips on where prime locations were in the different compartments. Good luck and have fun
lf the saying "Liar, Liar your pants on fire" were true Mainstream news might be fun to watch

Their numbers may be down, but the Biologists that I've talked to each time said that they are trying to thin out some of the deer due to the poor forage. My son just killed a doe there 3 weeks ago on a mgmt hunt, and missed another one due to fumbling around with his gun. Saw a really nice buck also, and a couple of smaller ones.

Find the Forage. We were there a couple weeks ago on a draw hunt. GEt near the creek if at all possible. and use a ladder stand. those deer are some of the most weary deer I've seen.
If you use a blind, make sure you tuck it in tight and brush it in good.
