Ok so earlier today the wife says... If you don't get a good buck this year maybe you should find another place.. I told her its not that easy and I know good bucks are there.. This is our fourth season... First year my brother got a nice 132 inch 10 point..5 year old..(per the taxidermist).. Also a spike and a doe... Second year 3 doe.. Third 2 doe.. This year so far my dad got an eight.... And we got plenty of pics if some good up and comers and 4-5 shooters for this year... So I was just thinking.. How long should a person give it a go??... For what we pay.. Location.. Cabin, water, elec... I don't think u could match it.. I'm content ... But I was just curious and maybe could give the wife a better answer

Tell her it's not about the killing,it's about the experience.

It's called hunting not killing...lol...jk.
It really depends on what type of animals you are after, lots of people spend thousands of dollars each year on trophy leases and don't kill a big buck. Some guys are happy spending 500 dollars and killing a doe or spike.

To me it's the time I spend hunting, being with nature, having fun with buddies, seeing the deer that I enjoyed just watching, harvesting when I can, you can't eat the horns, if I wanted a trophy I would spend the monies, but to me that isn't what it's all about.

Depends on what the lease is to you.
I love hanging out in camp just as much as I do hunting. My brother got on the lease with me this year and it is just that much more special now. I just hope I am down there when he connects on his buck.
Being able to get away from this crazy town and clear my head is just as good as shooting something. Heck I went down last weekend and only hunted once. I slept in a couple of mornings, went and sat in my brothers area a couple of times without a rifle and only a camera and got some good video.
But at the same time if you are also spending the money for a chance at a good buck and you arne't seeing any then you might want to start looking around until you find one that has everything you are looking for.
I have a small camper on the place right now and will be looking really hard after this season at upgrading to a larger camper so I can take my family with me and be comfortable.
Best of luck to ya.

Don't expect her to understand. They are incapable of seeing things the way we do.
As long as you enjoy your time out there, and most importantly the meat you harvest, then that's all that matters. It's a hobby, and a tradition. It's not all about trophies.
As long as yall can afford it of course.

Dan, that's heavy man. I couldn't agree more. And he has a cabin. Sounds like a deal to me...We used to hunt near Mason, cabin with electricity, hot showers, mucho deer and turkey, fishing in the Llano river. It was sweet. We paid $500 a gun for a few years. Never shot monsters back then but could EASILY fill tags. We thought we could find a better place...You need to think about all you have instead of what you don't have...I still miss that beautiful paradise.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.

Sometimes people don't understand what hunting is all about until they actually experience it. It is not about killing something everytime you go. It is what you experience from the hunt that matters the most. That is hard to explain to someone who thinks hunting is only about killing.

Like everyone else, it isn't about bringing home a trophy. I am hunting for a trophy, but that can mean something different on different days. The experience, camaraderie, stories, and just watching the deer makes it worth it. Big boy steps out or a doe for the freezer....just icing on the cake for me.
If a lease gives me what I need to fulfill the hunting itch, no reason to get off. I have been on one for almost 20 years and don't plan on going anywhere. I have been on others that didn't do it for me, and I would get off the next year even though I could have killed bigger deer than the one I am on. I have gone years without killing a big deer, and that's fine by me.
Non-hunters, like your wife and my wife, will probably never understand it completely.

I used to have the same mindset that it was about the experience, but my son started getting turned off by not seeing enough game. 3 years tops if you are not seeing what you think you should.

If you are getting deer every year and it is functional close to home price etc. stay put and of course you're talking to a meat guy that shot his last buck in 1996 got a lot of does and Ive had a lot of deer meat in between though. It's too bad for a lot of the trophy guys around here I have sat and watched a bunch of them pass right by my stand and just enjoyed seeing them. Doe's sure eat a lot better. All that matters is how you like it in the long run like stated it's a tradition.

Yeah, my wife doesn't get it either. She nags me about doing everything myself. She doesn't understand why I make my own euro, Butcher my own deer, or make my own jerky. She wants me to drop it off and get processed like the guys at work. She says it's a waste of my time, and i tell her it's my time to waste.

I've been on my share of leases. My current lease is the one I plan on being a part of for a long long time. It's a timber lease, but we have some great up and comers on camera and I've seen several in person. Haven't pulled the trigger yet, and may not unless a mature buck walks out. But the reason I plan on staying has nothing at all to do with that...but because of the camp atmosphere and the fellow leasers. By far the best group of hunters I've ever been on a lease with. They don't all get wrapped up in B&C scores, but they are mostly all on board with waiting for 4 1/2 year old or better deer. It's more than just the deer for me...my wife is in love with this place, and can't stand to not be at the lease with me...and that is the main reason why I plan on hanging around for a long time
I will get off in a little bit You shouldnt have said that
