Here is my opinion, the GW s that I have come in contact with are happy to be involved in deer hunting. I know some people have had bad experiences from what I hear, but I have not. They never mind being called to look at a big deer for sure! Yes I do believe it legitimizes a kill, if the GW is called to the location immediately after the kill. Himself, as well as everyone else knows things were on the up and up. Later if the book is a factor or even Tx big game awards, there are questions asked even a polygraph sometimes. No there were no legal bindings to have to call the GW , but what can it hurt? I personally love having a great relationship with the GW. 1. I still don't understand how that stops people who want to start rumors. 2. I thought GW's were paid to enforce laws, not "deer hunt". 3. I personally think it sucks if a GW responds to a "hey I killed a legal deer and I want your verification/approval", when they are by their own admission cash strapped and unable to respond to legitimate enforcement calls. Has nothing whatsoever to do with GW relations or history, everything to do with what their duties/responsibilities are. And the fact that it won't stop any jealous busybody from saying whatever they want. So he was wrong to call the GW? I don't see what the issue is since the GW is the one to tell him whether he was wrong or not! JMO! No. Never ever said he was wrong to call anyone. If I'd killed that deer I'd have called everyone I knew including the GW's wife and daughter, and sent them the pic. The issue is why did the guy need the game warden to tell him it was "ok"???? I've never ever shot a deer that it would occur to me that I needed ANYONES approval or validation.

All the game wardens I know would want to see that sucker, legal or not!!!
I don't get the fear, distrust, or hate of game wardens. I am not a pro big government guy but geez, paranoid much? You probably need to keep your threads straight. Nowhere on here have I or anyone else said anything about "fear, distrust, or hatred" of GWs. And I'll agree, all the GWs I know would want to see the animal to, IN PICS. But we're talking about calling a GW to come validate when a nice deer is killed. That's nuts and would occupy most of a GWs time if that mentality were shared.

But in an area where rumors do fly and someone possibly would accuse him of poaching, having the GW involved DOES legitimize the kill in the town's eyes. Kills the rumors immediately. I don't know why this is so hard to understand.

Rancher I kind of agree with you on this one, but the GW could have declined the call if he was busy with legit law enforcement business. If he wasn't busy then no harm done and he got to see a monster arse buck in person. I don't know any hunter that wouldn't love to see that bad boy in person. But your right calling the GW isn't going to stop the idiots from spreading rumors. To the Op thanks for posting the pics of that freaking giant of a buck.

Didn't miss a thing. I got all that. But then you say NOW he called to get the GW to tell him whether or not it was ok....
That's just weird.

Still a dang great buck. Responding to the op is in fact on topic. And OP, I would have handled it this way when dealing with jealous rumor mongers: "So, you got a problem believing I didn't poach this monster? Call the GW then."

In fact I posted those exact things. But it would never occur to me to expect a GW to come validate my kill.

Maybe he needed the GW to take the dang pictures. I got a PM of huge massive North Texas buck that the picture was taken by the GW at the camp. GW sent it to the guy who showed me. Don't see any or have any problem with him calling the GW.

I'd have told detractors to call their own GW.

I don't believe I ever said he needed the GW to say it was ok, simply said it would stop the validity of any rumors. I would say the surest way to kill rumors is to have the GW involved. I guess this is not a uncommon occurrence, the GW was also called on another big deer a week ago.

I don't understand why you are saying he called for validation? He didn't need validation on the kill, he was laying there dead!
