Awesome deer. But I don't have a clue why you'd feel the need to call a GW.

Let me explain the reason I believe he called him, a few years ago a big deer was taken here and rumors flew. Rumors about spotlights, trespassing all kinds of things, enough that the GW at the time did some investigation. No one ever felt like they knew the truth on that deer. I think with a potential record book deer, he did the right thing. No questions or rumors, will be put out there with the GW in the picture.

I completely understand and have been in those situations. Some people just cannot stand it when somebody kills a big deer and cannot keep themselves running their mouths, especially in a place not known for 180-class deer. I don't blame the hunter one bit, and I bet the GW knew exactly why he was called.

Here is my opinion, the GW s that I have come in contact with are happy to be involved in deer hunting. I know some people have had bad experiences from what I hear, but I have not. They never mind being called to look at a big deer for sure! Yes I do believe it legitimizes a kill, if the GW is called to the location immediately after the kill. Himself, as well as everyone else knows things were on the up and up. Later if the book is a factor or even Tx big game awards, there are questions asked even a polygraph sometimes. No there were no legal bindings to have to call the GW , but what can it hurt? I personally love having a great relationship with the GW.

1. I still don't understand how that stops people who want to start rumors.
2. I thought GW's were paid to enforce laws, not "deer hunt".
3. I personally think it sucks if a GW responds to a "hey I killed a legal deer and I want your verification/approval", when they are by their own admission cash strapped and unable to respond to legitimate enforcement calls.

Has nothing whatsoever to do with GW relations or history, everything to do with what their duties/responsibilities are. And the fact that it won't stop any jealous busybody from saying whatever they want.

I think blanking out your friends face on the pic creates more suspicion than anything to do with the GW issue. I would want my smiling face all over that buck. My 2 cents.
