How old before you let your son hunt by himself? My son is 9 so we have a few years but was interested in your opinion on this. I I think there are some that start them to early 13-14 I just don't know how I would feel letting my son handle a high power rifle at that age without me being around.

Depends on the kid. I've seen some that were ready and responsible at 12. I've also seen some Grown men that don't have any business handling a rifle.

If you are on a place with loose management rules and no AR. I'd say younger. That was the situation when I was growing up. I was hunting by myself around at 10-12 I guess. If your lease has strict rules I. Which bucks can be shot, or you have AR, I'd imagine by by 14 or 15 most kids who have hunted their whole life will have a pretty good handle on it.

Yeah, it depends on the person. If they've been hunting all their lives, practice a lot and know which deer to shoot, 10 and up is no problem. I hunted deer with my dad for 2yrs but was alone by age 10.

City kid that never sees a gun and shoots it once a year? Should never be alone

This plus a few other factors. Like management plan and goals on the ranch as wells AR restrictions.I was 12 or 13 but any buck was legal so it was more along the quote above with me. I had been hunting with a shotgun alone for a year when I was allowed to deer hunt alone.

All depends on the kid IMO, just like everything. Certain kids handle situations very well and others don't. Some are responsible and some aren't. I would have to be very confident in his safety regime and knowledge of the area he was hunting. I would say 10-12 for most kids that have been raised hunting and in the outdoors.

I have raised my son around guns his whole life no way he goes at it alone at 10 and he is no city slicker. I just think my 2 cents only kids need more time before being on their own with a gun. The only reason I say this is b/c I have let kids use my sons BB gun not loaded on purpose to see how they act on their own and looked out the window and everyone of them looked down the barrel and they hunt on their own now 12-13 year olds. I think they are fine with an adult around but get careless on their own. Like I said this is just my opinion and like your feedback.

Your the Daddy. You've been around your son and know him. If you are not comfortable with it, by all means don't let him hunt alone. By hunting with him, y'all will be making memories y'all will never replace.

It's the time spent in God's creation with family and friends making memories that counts.

My Dad took me with him when I was 8. Apparently I made too much noise because I was "on my own" when I was 9, evenings only. Killed a decent buck on my second sit. Been hooked every since.

Thank you...thank you very much
