URL=http://s944.photobucket.com/user/selfbowhunter/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image-1.jpg.html] [/URL] I built this rifle up for an aoudad hunt that didnt pan out too well. Its a 6.5x47 on a remington 700sa that i trued up prior to fitting a shilen SS match grade 1-9 #2 contour blank. It is finished at 20". I finished the bolt in KG flat black. The barrel and receiver were finished in a mix of three colors i had left over from other projects. I call it **** brown but its really almost black. Light weight was the name of the game when i built this rifle. It has a straight bolt handle that was welded on by accu-tig. I then made several lightening holes in the handle and bored out the knob. LRI did the bolt fluting in their high helical. I installed a sako extractor in this one. I do the m-16 type as well but i really lime the sako. Its a bdl as you can see and its nestled in a B&C alaskan II stock. The trigger is a factory old style i honed on and slicked up. I make my brass out of 22-250 with a large primer pocket. I am shooting the 123 amax at 2825fps. It shoots 1/2moa at this velocity. I can go up to 3000fps but accuracy suffers. It LOVES the 123 scenar and shoots better groups but i was leary of trusting a once in a lifetime hunt to that bullet. Cant wait to lay something down with this little bang stick!

I dig it. Can you flute a barrel after it's installed?

What's the weight with scope and sling? If I have to carry it I like a lighter weight gun my BRNO 22F comes in at 7lb 3oz.

Congrats. Nice to see you using a Remington 700 action and working the trigger rather than having to install a Timney. Also like the 20" barrel. Good choice on caliber. Looks like you got a winner and also something different than what everyone will be carrying.

I use a lot of slicked up old style remingtons. They can be every bit as good as a timney. I do like the captured sear design of the timney though. I build more tactical/practical match rifles and long range hunting rifles and like to shoot matches as well, but i sure do hate carrying a fat pig hunting! All of my personal rifles will be as light as practical from now on. I have some model 7 receivers i plan on building on soon. I should be able to shave off a few ounces that way as well.

Is a Lapua Scenar a decent hunting bullet?
I there are some interesting options opening up for 6.5 in the 129/130gr area.

I have read conflicting reports on the scenar for hunting thats why i went with the amax load. The scenar can be pushed faster with greater accuracy in this rifle i am just not sure of its performance. My farm is over run with hogs. I will try to shoot a couple with the scenar for "testing" purposes!

Have used the 139gr scenar bullets successfully on hogs, accurate bullets also. Do they offer Partition type performance NO but they do as well as a lot of cup and core bullets with very good accuracy.

I'll be interested in the terminal performance of the amax, since I assume they're designed for 6.5 Grendel velocity. The 123gr SST might be a little better at higher velocity, but that's just speculation on my part, and that's why I'm interested in how these do. I don't understand why Hornady went with the 120 and 129gr bullets for their 6.5creed loads instead of the 123gr w/ higher BC. I can only surmise that it's due to velocity constraints on the lighter 123.

I know it's designed for sheep hunting and carrying, but I'm willing to bet, that you'll find it mighty handy in deer stands, particularly ones that are a bit of a tight fit.

I dont think the 123 will have any issues staying together well enough to get the job done. I would prefer the 140 amax but i got a deal on this blank and its 1-9 wont stabilize the 140. I am going to give the scenar a shot on some pigs. If it works well enough i will probably use it since its BC is much better than the amax. I shot both bullets at 1550yds in a 6.5SLR i built years ago. The amax wasnt consistent at that distance and the elevation deifference in it and the scenar was UNBELIEVABLE! I could make hits on my IPSC steel target basically at will with the scenar and went several straight at one point!
