I would first go remington 700 then Savage because I worked for them and like the real recoil lug and accutrigger and barrel nut design. their ergonomics leave much to be desired. The tika is got a good trigger and is smooth for a cheaper price. The stock leaves much to be desired, I don't like the recoil lug design and I think its a little uglier than the savage smile. The 700 would be my first pick. But would replace the trigger.

It's funny to see how Savage has/is turning the corner. When I was younger Savage guns were a joke, nobody in their right mind bought one unless it was all they could afford. It was all Winchester or Remington, or if you had bucks, Weatherby. I am also humored by how many people have no qualms about Tikkas and other foreign guns but still have issues with Hondas and Toyotas.

Really?? eek2

I guess it's just an opinion thing cheers . Savage makes a good rifle, I just find it hard to get past the way they look.

Check out the 114 Classic, tth. I hated the old hardwood stocked 110s, but I think this is a downright handsome rifle. YMMV!

Caleb,

I have bought a couple 770's for the kiddos and havent had any problems out of the rifle. Definitely change the optics. It really boils down to how hard you are on the gun. And what kind of performance you expect. I am a box blind hunter and one shot is all I usually get so the bolt action issues some have experienced arent a factor to me.

Agree with everyone else on here....get a 700. Go to Academy and handle them, run the bolt a few times, etc..you'll notice it too. For $60 more you can get a 700 ADL over the 770, it's a no brainer.
