Skinner, I haven't either but about to remedy that issue. You will feel an emptiness in your back pocket every time you pull the trigger. Beautiful gun looks great. I have the same scope and have loved it so far.

Mike, that's a very nice rifle in a great hunting caliber!!!
I do have one question, though. You have obviously put some time and money into this rifle with the wood and scope. Why would you do all this and put a low cost scope base and rings on the rifle? The rear bases with the windage screws easily loosen up. And I've seen the "ears" on the bottom of the rings (that the screws hold on to) sheer off on 270 Win, 300 Win Mag, and 300 Wby rifles. This base/ring set up is very prone to failure and coming loose. I'd hate to see you go through the misery of a simple base/ring issue with such a great rifle. I know these bases/rings are common on every store shelf, but are one of the worst for reliability. I hope I am not offending. I'm simply passing on info about this product.

I have the same base and rings on my 300 wby and it hasn rarely chucked anything but 200-220 grain loads. No issues thus far. Never seen or herd of that issue with them either.

Do yourself a favor and heed the advice above!!! Don't even try to zero. Get high quality base and rings and save headache and heartache.

I've seen multiple issues with customers' rifles and my personal 270 Win with these rings/bases. I only speak from experience with them and pass on my findings.

I use to have a lazerguard...They use to to make a slip cover for them to protect the wood....That thing should be a tack driver!

very nice rifle... but socks and flip flops?? lol jk Hey man, I wear boots all day, every day. When I get home I don't want shoes on my feet and it's cold. Socks and flip-flops work nicely. Besides, my dog doesn't mind.

I chose the scope because I've been hearing the ravings of Vortex scopes. I got it for under $400 and decided to try it and see if I like it. If not, I can easily sell it and replace it later with something nicer.
Why Leupold base and rings? Honestly, they are all I've ever used and I've never had an issue with them. Back in the day, there was two choices. Redfield or Weaver were about the only choices one had. Never liked Weaver rings, so Redfield was it. Leupold makes a similar base/ring. I've got the same set up on all my hunting rifles and have never had an issue, and that includes my magnums. When I was a sniper, Leupold base and rings was as good as it got. Again, never had an issue.
I'm sure there's better out there and at some point I may very well upgrade. But for now the rifle is ready to go to field and hunt. If I wait until I've saved another $1000+ for optics and mount then It'll be next season before I can use this rifle. It's just a simple case of economics. I got what I could afford at the time and I'll make it work.
