I have a dumb question:
With the cold weather here and more to come, is it safe enough to kill some hogs and not skin them or field dress them until you get home? My nearest hunting area is about 2 hours away, so it’ll be a while before being able to get them ready. I was thinking maybe field dress them and then do the rest once at home.
Thoughts?

Always gut them...
Definitely safe to wait until you get home to skin-quarter them out.
Wife has always wanted some Hard 8

took son on hog hunt to a flooded WMA ta do some island jumping by boat. got john boat, 7.5 moter. temps was in 60+ going up stream. whin we woke up from our naps it took awhile, bout 45 minutes inta trip, realized forgot ta bring ice. yagh, like pappy always say's: bout bright as a burnt out light bulb. too far ta turn around, will worry bout it if we get one. we hit WMA, slowed down, found little island, tied up boat. son had 30-30, i had the 303. spread out ta cover more ground using hand signals. heard the 30-30 sound off. some small hogs ran past between us. so eased twards them ta get closer shot. heard nother shot, so did aboutface, son had two hogs down. gutted hogs, dragged ta boat. had carried my back pack with & left in boat. always carry trash bags in it ta put meat in, then put in backpack. took trash bag, dipped in river water, even though temps were 60+ water was much colder, twas Jan. or Feb. tied nott double bagged stuffed in cavity of hog. did same for other. headed back ta truck. last 200yrds ran outa gas. did have paddles though. was nothing wrong with meat. warmer the weather, faster ya need ta get on ice. tis biggest reason don't hunt the WMA during the May hunts for hogs. great memmories, son is in different state. tis why most hunts are solo.
