Maybe it's just me, but I am seeing a pattern in the Austin area Academy stores. I have several calibers and I am shooting the Barnes TTSX shells out of most of them. But the last trips I have made to Academy, the selection of Barnes seems to be shrinking, even the 270 and 308 are no longer on their shelves. Does anyone know if they are phasing out the Barnes ammo? If they are, I need a new source...I know SWFA carries them and Midway sometimes has good sales on them.

I don't know the answer to your question. BUT, I wouldn't be surprised to see some ammo supplies low for hunting bullets as the rifle season approaches, especially in such popular calibers as 308 and 270.

It's not just one store. I have checked 3 so far in the area and it's the same deal at all of them. Very little selection of calibers for the Barnes factory ammo, especially compared to this time last year.

I would bet that the stores were stocking what they could get their hands on in the ammo rush times and the upper end more expensive ammo, barnes for example was in stock because all the idiots running out to buy ammo didn't want to spend the money on it. Now that the ammo scare is fading somewhat they probably aren't going to stock as many of them just to have something on the shelves. Also hunting season probably doesn't hurt it either.

Yeah, I bet there are multiple factors, and you might be right that it is an Academy / Barnes issue ( who knows). But to follow up on my previous post, it isn't just hunting season at one store... if that has anything to do with it, it would almost certainly effect all of them.

Hope you can find what you need.

I seem to be unable to pull up Barnes' website for the past several days. Something going on with Barnes?

The academy I go to never, and I mean never, has the ammo I need. Went there the other day looking for some .243 varmint rounds and the person behind the firearms counter told me there is a shortage of .243 ammo.

Shortage of .243??? I asked them if they ment .22 ammo but they said no, .243.

Drove to Walmart across the street and their shelves were stocked with .243 ammo.

I like Academy, but ammo/knowledge wise they are just a joke.

Last weekend I was In Corpus Christi and they have one huge Academy. Hadn't been there in a long time, so I made sure to swing by. Well, same song, and about the 6th verse. They had some Barnes, but it was the same caliber selection as the Austin area stores. They had a lot of 300 Win mag and would you believe 35 Whelen! But no 270 or 308 which is what I am a little low on. So it's not just Austin. hammer

It seems they have quit stocking quite a few other brands/loads in .270 and .308-my bet is that at least some of the attrition is due to people switching to Barnes from others that they can't get, thereby reducing your opportunity to get it.

My bet is that they have promoted one of the clueless kids from behind the counter (Peter principle) to the ordering desk and he doesn't think anybody shoots those archaic .243s, .308s, .30-06, etc. anymore and they don't shoot Barnes just the low priced stuff.

The answer is FLINTLOCK! Now, what was the question?

Was at the Academy in Corpus a few days ago and they were totally out of 243....
