Went bow hunting about a month ago in east texas at my father in laws. About 20 minutes after getting settled in the tree, I had a nice buck come in. He got to about 25 yards, and I had buck fever bad. I had only shot a doe with a bow up until this point, and this would have been my biggest buck bow or rifle. I drew on him, he made eye contact with me, and it was the longest 5 seconds of my life. He went back to eating, and I let it fly. As soon as it hit I knew it was a bad shot. When I got down and checked my arrow I saw blood and meat on it, but no blood trail whatsoever. I had no idea where I hit it, my adrenaline was pumping so hard I kinda went into blackout mode. We blindly looked for a couple of hours, but never saw a blood trail, hair, nothing. Lost his tracks after about 40 yards when the leaves and grass started getting thick. I was sick about it, telling myself 'if I would have done this, or that...etc.'

A couple of weeks ago my father in law calls and says the buck is alive. He has seen him hanging about 100 yrds from the house. All season he had been hanging out there with a 10 point (that my FIL shot a few weeks ago) but hasn't been back since I shot him. He said he has a big open wound up high. So I'm assuming I may have hit him in the backstrap. Well tmrw I am headin out with the rifle and gonna try to take him.

Got him! Rolled in about 10pm friday night, drank a little whiskey with my father in law went to bed. In the mornin I got in a pop up blind and had doe all around me. I was thinkin it would be pretty difficult to grab my rifle and get situated with with 10 doe about 20 yards from me. I noticed they started trickling down the hill, and as I was watching them I looked over and saw him standing there right in front of me with a little 4 point. I dropped him at 40 yards. After the debacle with him a month ago, it was awesome to see him drop in his tracks.

Thanks fellas. It may not be the biggest buck, but it's the biggest I've shot and has a good story, so it's goin up on the wall.
