Anybody still go out pig hunting in winds like today 20+. I got my tax stamp for my suppressor in today and figured I would go out and see if I could smack one down with the 300 blkout, hunting thick timber. I'm going either way so I don't need the usual you can't shoot them from the couch. More of a question on how much wind is to much.

Isn't it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back everything is different.

My personal experience says the higher the wind the less chance for success. With that being said, i have been out in winds that made me feel like my blind was going to blow over and had a hog come in and receive a bullet to the neck. IF they are moving in high winds...count on them being skittish.

Good luck!

How was your suppressor buying experience? Im looking to get one but not exactly sure the best way to go about it. Send me a PM if you like.

There's nothing better than killin it and grillin it!

I would think that with the pressure starting to fall somewhat this afternoon when the wind advisory is set to expire that you would see some action ahead of the front.

I gotta agree that chances tend to go down as wind increases, but hogs gotta eat. They will be somewhere. The real question is if you will be there.

I have killed several hogs in high winds, but usually I am bored. I think your chances are better if you can stalk or patrol a large area instead of being in a stand.

Tonight, I am in a stand, wind in my face, watching the sun go down.

It was way to windy, made my tree feel like a sapling. But I'm back at it again. It's windy but not as bad as yesterday. I'm about to get down and go for a stalk. Just heard a couple squeal about 100 yards off. The suppressor buying experience wasn't much different then buy a gun, except you give someone a thousand dollars plus 200 to the ATF and wait...and wait... and keep waiting. Mine was actually on the shorter end, only 4 and 1/2 months. Average wait times right now are 6 to 9 months.I put it off several times and regretted it, my advise is as soon as you have the spare money, buy it. From a reputable dealer of course.

We'll a little update... Sat for about two hours and a solo pig finally came in. Put a 220 gr. subsonic behind the ear and it ran. Tracked blood for several hundred yards before I lost the trail, on the way back to the ole honda pioneer I stumbled on another, put a bullet behind its ear and it ran crashing through brush and I couldn't find it either. So in conclusion I don't think sub sonics behind the ear at full broadside is a good method with the slower moving projectiles.

Pigs where I hunt stay in the brush during high wind.

I hunt with the 300 Blackout and raccoon's laughed off the subsonics. I guess it just pencils through them. Might switch to sonic loads in 110 Barnes or 125 SST's. I've knocked down tons of pork with those bullets.

Close pigs are going to spook regardless of whether you shoot sonic or subsonic. The suppressor dampens sonic loads enough that pigs can't tell where shot originated and animals back in the brush will stick around. If I hunt without a suppressor, a shot will kill any chance of seeing pigs later on.
