First, obviously I'm new to the forum. I hope to be able to contribute some good stories and pictures this season.
I have a question about wearing shades while hunting. I hunt with a buddy who has a lease and usually we are facing directly into the sun in the mornings. First time, I didn't wear sunglasses and I struggled. The second time I did and we had far fewer birds interested in the decoys. If we weren't facing the sun, I wouldn't worry about the shades, but it's tough staring straight into it all morning
Do you think this has any effect? Does anyone wear sunglasses when hunting? I'm looking at getting either Costas or Smiths for fishing, which I would probably wear for hunting, too, so if there is a color lens anyone suggests?
I just turned it on . I was looking bird dogs in the butt this morning.

I wear sunglasses duck hunting, dove hunting, turkey hunting, pretty much anytime the sun might be a factor. My eyes are crazy sensitive, if the sun is up you bet it will affect me.
I have 2 pairs I wear, some matte black Costas with black lenses and matte brown Arnettes with amber lenses.
I have been told amber lenses are best because they do not reflect as much but I have had zero problems with either. Also worn glasses deer hunting but have not been doing that as long. Even wore a pair when I was antelope hunting this year, didn't spook anything. At one point or another people give me crap for wearing them, but they help me see better and keep powder out of my eyes so I don't care!

I wear brown Maui Jims while fishing, hunting, driving, etc. I would say glasses are okay for duck hunting as long as you wear a hat and keep your face down. Ideally one person should be spotting the birds and calling the shot while everyone else has their face down.

I love me some Costas! To the OP, you should be able to wear whatever on your face without scaring the ducks. Your should be able to wear bright pink if you want to, because your face should be buried in the blind material or covered up. I get kind of when people in the blind stick their melon heads up looking at working ducks. That is when I get all in the blind.

I have to wear glasses... so when the sun comes up I pop on my shades. I personally wouldn't wear mirror shades duck hunting but I probably look at the ducks more than I should. Ducks see glare all the time, they are landing on water. It's moving glare/movement on land that scares the crap out of them. And since I have to wear SOMETHING, I'm going to be comfortable. I don't think my amber lenses have any more glare than my regular glasses.

I wear mine when I need to.
By the way I look at the ducks working too! It is part of the fun. I try to hide best I can and be discrete but that is part of the reason I am out there.

Can't go wrong with Costas. I love my brines w/ the tortoise frame and green 580G lens. Everything is picture perfect.

Awesome, guys. Thanks. Dave, GtT, Ramball and everyone else. Those are the answers I was looking for.
Looks like Costas might be the way to go. Thanks, JDK, happy to be here!

Sunglasses don't really seem to be the real issue here. Set up where yall are not facing into the sun. I guess if ducks really want to be there you might not have a choice but normally when all things are even then wind is one of the first factors in setting up followed by sun. Normally you can adjust to accommodated both.
Dear Lord please bullwhip me for saying this but I agree, Marcstar is in the lead. Please nobody use this as a quote!!!

Accommodate the ducks... Or Set up where the ducks don't want to be, then shot them in the arse since that's the way they probably come in
And don't stare the ducks down

Good tips, thanks fellas. I'll look into that. It's not my lease, so I usually go with what my buddy likes to do, but I'll make the suggestion next time I go out with him.

From time to time you might hunt an area where you really have not choice where the sun comes up because you are not able to access the other areas of the lake due to property lines, etc. When this happens I pretty much go in knowing that if it's a clear sky day then it's going to be a short hunt because ones the sun is lighting you up you are busted and will just flare ducks. Although some divers are dumb enough to land on your head still sometimes.
Yeah and as far as it being a buddy's property then I'd just talk it over with your friend a day or two before a hunt out there....just make it a friendly suggestion that you were thinking about hunting that property and was wondering we might have better luck setting up a bit differently. Who knows maybe this guy just never thought about it. But in the end you are hunting so it's all good.
