This past off season we put up a real nice stand along with a feeder along a fence line that had some really good potential. We started feeding back in the Summer and have had some good looks at game coming in. The property that it borders does not have any active signs of vehicles or human interaction. Yet today I got to the stand only to find my feeder over come with brush that our neighbors decided to throw right under our feeder. Whats your take?

Be a good neighbor and don't hunt the fencelines. The same deer will hit your feeder 200 yards off the fence.

There is no law or regulation about how close feeders or deer stands can be to a fence. However everyone is responsible for their bullet and bullets can't legally cross a fence.

The other thing I forgot to mention is that on our side is an old county road that goes the entire length of the fence which is the main reason we put it there b/c of the lane we have on our side.

Also, on the backside of our place, another neighbor who has a massive grass field decided to put a feeder about 20 yards off of our fence. They have NO cover at all and just put a feeder up trying to draw deer out of our lease onto their land. Now that is frustrating!

As long as your bullet doesn't cross the fence you're fine. Your neighbor doesn't own the deer.

All my hunting years, I've heard that courtesy calls for setting up at least 100 yards from your neighbor's fence. Since you've seen little activity across the fence, your neighbor seems to be abiding by this courtesy. Now, he has subtly told you to move back away from the fence. I would recommend you do so...you will see the same deer, as stranchman has posted.

In return, you'll become a good neighbor too.

Move it if you have options. We have some hunters that have one on our fence line. I never go over there due to the fact this is a feeder on the fence. We had one near there over 100 yards off but moved it due to the fact theirs was too close. They have zero cover, just a big open field pulling deer from our place.

perfectly legal,but like the others have said not going to make your neighbors very happy,plus if you shoot one and it hops the fence you just lost a deer.

We do have one on the fence, next to the neighbors high fence. Some of the only good soil around, so we plant oats along it. We shoot long ways down the fence, never towards it. Our low fenced areas are far from any fence. Just courtesy and safety.

We don't have any against neighbors fences that I can think of off hand, but our neighbors have our place lined on two sides. We asked two to relocate the stands so they aren't shooting onto our land and the kindly obliged. The others are shooting long ways, so we have no issue.

Just the same as STX said, the deer will travel another 100 yards to feed, so I don't figure it matters if they are 20 yards off the fence or 80 yards off the fence

I have said it before on here...and wish I could remember the handle of the guy...but one of my neighbors has a stand that dang near got knocked over when we were grubbing the fence line. The excavator just missed it, but it was close. He isn't pointing toward our place, so no big deal.

golden rule, if it is close enough and or points in a way it would bother you if the shoe was on the other foot then don't do it. other than that safety is the big deal for me.

Only ones I've ever had problem with was a couple I literally could have touched over the fence.... and they were hunting a trail to our feeder 60 yards away... they got pigs piled up right by there door for a while till they got the hint...

Common practice in South Texas on long senderos, whom am I to say right or wrong, no one owns the deer. Do it but understand the situation of shooting one and having it hop the fence.

The people to the north of me have a feeder 39 yards off my north fence and a tower blind 100 yards north of it. They are shooting straight into my lease. Not safe, not courteous, still trying to find out who they are so I can talk to them. They may start getting piles of hogs and coyotes too! On my side of the fence of course!

He's 100% correct. DO NOT HUNT A NEIGHBORS FENCE LINE, it will only turn out bad. I made a deal with all my neighbors when I bought my ranch. I won't hunt or have stands and feeders on them and neither will they.

I hunted on a ranch many years ago around Big Wells west of Dilley. If the rancher caught a stand on his fence line he would wait for a rainy day and pitch an oily rag on fire in their stand and burn it up. He would also shoot timers off feeders if he thought they were to close to his fence. Guy was pretty hardcore, only hunted there a couple of years.

Hunting fence lines is a touchy subject.

Those hunting hundreds/thousands of acres don't necessarily have a need to set up on property lines, but someone hunting a small parcel of land with limited access may be forced to do so.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to an individual's ethics.

My regular stand is about 75 yards off the fence line but that is where the old stand that was there when we got the place and just replace it and i would never shoot behind me just out of respect even though there is no other stand anywhere near me on the other side of the fence . We are in good standings with our neighbor and he does not have a problem with it and i think that is the way it should be .....if your ok with it and the other party is to then it should be all good.

100 yard rule. It's a matter of courtesy and safety. It's just not good form.

Like it was said, be a good neighbor and move it out of sight of the fenceline. Just moving it a few yards would just be taunting him, and elevate his discontent.
