Have a bunch of spikes running around and this was a very wet year for us. The big bucks were BIG this year. Saw one today that almost made me fall out of my tree stand. So I planned on using my spike tag. This guy was in front of me this morning with another "spike" that also had 1 forked side. What you see isn't a broken tine, his left side is just that short. Weird because his right side is actually about average for 1.5 bucks in my area. Most of them start off as little fork horns. Anyhow, he's not a spike on both sides, but his side that is is really bad. I could have held out for a true double sided spike but took this guy this a.m. Thoughts on this beautiful buck? If that's is what I wanted then yes, I'd shoot it. It's a legal harvest. It'll be good meat in the freezer. Some argue not to shoot young or small, others prefer them. To each his own. Congratulations on a good harvest.

I would not have shot that buck if there are other true spikes around.

I've got one very similar to yours but both sides are single spikes. I've been contemplating shooting him but can't decide if he's 1.5 or 2.5. I think he's 2.5 because I have a smaller one with 3" spikes that I know is 1.5. The bigger bodied uneven spike has one about 6-7" long and one 2" long so I gave my FIL the green light on him instead of a doe at Thanksgiving....
No doubt about the AR crap, just damn shame hunters don't have self control and knowledge

This guy wasn't the worst, but I haven't gotten pictures of some of the other offenders in awhile, and this guy is on my property all day, every day. Highly populated area. Still see lots of young bucks and a few big ones every now and then to mix in with the zillions of does. I don't think I'm going to miss him. I do think I'm going to eat him though.

Depends, we only have so many spike tags at our place, but when you see plenty of 4-6-8pt 1.5 yr olds, one like this won't be missed.

Was that other side broken off? , That's what I was thinking. Looks like a fork horn that broke off one side. Yearling forkies get a walk on my place.

Cam, I have one almost identical to that one, going to try and get the neighbor on him. Ours looks young, but body size is a bit bigger than a few other spikish bucks we have. Plus he's a butt head around the feeder LOL.
