Definitely not reeds, as soon as they die they start bending in the middle. We use them but it is convenient for us because we hunt in a 240 acre reservoir that is full of them. We put new brush on top of the old stuff every weekend.

we have had good luck with willow if you cut it before the sap drops, the leave will stay on way past the end of season.
