What is the best thing to dampen the noise in a box blind? Anyone know if there is a cheap carpet at Lowes that would work. I have two kids that hunt with me and you know how loud that can get.

I bought carpet 2x2 squares from the Habitat for Humanity store for $2 each and cut to fit. Cheap and easy and the chairs roll easily over them.

Carpet works good. Might even want to hang some on the bottom of the walls as well. Little kids seem to like to kick anything and everything when bored.

I think sometimes Lowes/Homedepot will sell scrap carpet pieces from the ends of rolls.

I pull carpet out of houses on a regular basis. Best would be the thinner indoor/outdoor and a lot of the carpet I pull is the thicker stuff. I have a house this week that the carpet is medium thickness, IIRC, if you are interested.

I'm off to Waco in the morning for carpet for a deer blind. Been meaning to work on that blind and replace the carpet, but I've been lazy. Got unlazy a couple of days ago and found that an owl had managed to get into the blind and left it absolutely covered in Owl crap and rodent bones. Luckily, the mess is mostly on the carpet and the chair. Chair's now clean and carpet is on top of the burn pile. I hope Lowe's or HD has some scraps. I don't even care what color, even if it's a color that we guys can't pronounce, but that the ladies love.

I don't hunt that blind much, but don't really know why. It's the only one I haven't shot anything out of. No deer, pig, coyote, rhinoceros, Velociraptor, etc.

Lowes sells an indoor outdoor carpet that is precut at 6ft wide by 10ft long I believe. Its Like $20.00 if I remember right.

I've ditched carpet for stable mats. Heavy and cumbersome to install but once in far superior to carpet. Doesn't get funky and chairs roll smooth and quiet. Tractor supply has them

I'd get some really heavy shag. That will help muffle the screams from the beating after he yells 'There's one!' when the trophy buck walks out at 50 yards...

Watch out of it's too thick......your chair won't roll in there.

I had some athletic flooring material left over from a job and it works good. About like the horse mat, but a little thick and stiff to go on the walls. Doesn't work as well in the bow blinds because your shoes will squeak on it....

For the walls, I use the 3/4" insulation boards from Home Depot. They help keep the blind warm and also absorb some of the sound when the kids accidentally kick the front and back walls of the blind.

Thanks,
Rich

I use carpet. Change it out every 2-3 years or whenever a barn owl gets in the stand. Those things can trash a box blind. I just go to our local carpet store and ask for scraps. They are usually more than happy to give it away. Or just wait till they put it in dumpster and take it out. Nothing beats free

I like carpet, but make sure to have your floor thick enough with plywood. I do a layer of 3/4" and a layer of 1/2" and then put carpet on top. Very little noise with this combo.

If you use carpet make sure it is a darker color. I had some leftover lighter colored carpet that I used in my blinds. They are dark green outside and inside but the lighter colored carpet brightens the inside of the blind more than I thought it would. I use 3/4" plywood over a 2x6 base on 16" centers.

I always hit up a carpet store for scraps and cut it to the size I need.

I bought the blue foam board from lowes and put it on the floor and half-way up from the floor. I cover the floor with real cheap carpeting. It was quiet and help insulate the blind.
