Carbon builds up and makes them heavier. This one hasn't been cleaned in 2000 rounds. I will never let it go that long again! It was in horrific shape internally

I don't know about the wife part, I see you are a cast iron skillet man, it would take a lot to buy my collection, have #20 chuck wagon skillet, #10's chuckwagon dutchovens plus various skillets

I'm so bad about cast iron that when we got a new oven I purposfully hand picked the few I would keep in the house, and took about 8 of them out to the storage building. But! One day they will be put in a new kitchen where they can be seen.
