It's come up & been discussed numerous times.. There's an issue, I forget what it is, & we've been told not to expect one anytime soon..

I'd love a THF app! It would be great if it was free, but I would shell out a couple bucks for it if need be.

In a perfect world we could all sit back in our office chairs and enjoy THF from an app to really maximize our worthlessness.

I'm kicked back with my phone right now. I pulled it off without an app.

I'm just saying it would be easier to use an app on a phone. And some of us don't sit behind a desk!

You can do that as it is right now.

Add the topic to your watch lists. Select the Watched Topics. On the far right should appear Edit Watched Topic.

As for messages that can be done through your settings. Go to My Stuff and then Edit Preferrences. In there is a setting to send you an email when you get a private message.

And I just want to know how it's easier. I don't get it.

I haven't seen a desk in a long time.

Just one example. I'm on my phone now checking my messages. I had to open a browser, type in the URL, log into THF, then check my messages.

With an app, I could go about my day, if I get a message my phone will vibrate and notify me rather than me checking it every so often. This could also be set up with flagged posts. I understand I can get e mails but I literally get hundreds of e mails a day and don't need anymore.

I know it sounds kind of lazy, but that's the world we live in, technology in real-time. Also, it will keep people on the site, what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

I own a couple of forums and run Tapatalk on them. It is too bad that the THF chose UBB.threads as their platform, it is about the only forum software that Tapatalk doesn't support.

The iPhone 5 at least is just to small for any forum unless it is an app in my opinion. I will just wait till I'm on a computer or tablet.

How is this any different than a phone notifying for new email? If anything it's worse since now there's an additional place to check.

Nobody needs more. Try receiving thousands a day. A typical work day for me yields a couple-few thousand. In one day I have received 42k emails. That's *42 thousand* (of course far, far from typical). Just for work. Not personal.

Again, a web site viewed on your computer with whatever browser you choose *is* an "app". And this one works fine. "App" is really a poor term and a misunderstood concept. An app, in many cases, is nothing more than a custom skin applied to a device's built-in browser and displays content from a web site with different styling than that of viewing on your computer's browser - but the styling is not a result of the "app", rather it's from the site. For example, if viewing in Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari - whatever - display it /this/ way. If it's anything else display it /this other way/. Same content. Formatted different.

Regardless of any of this, an "app" won't necessarily alleviate the woes you listed. You'll still have to open the app at some point. You'll still have to log in at some point. You won't have to type the URL or even use a bookmark though! Finally, you'll still have to check your messages - but somewhere other than a place you already check - your email, so to me that's an extra step. That's a best case scenario (meaning a well designed app). Worst case really only changes one thing and that's logging in. A poor app could leave you still having to log in every time. The net gain between the current site and an "app" is trivial at best for the user but would be a bit of work on the part of THF's web designers and developers to make the presentation layer.

What I would like to see is security on the site. How many people realize they log in with clear text usernames and passwords? No big deal you say? How many people use the same username and/or password elsewhere... maybe their bank?! Regardless of that I don't want people between me and the site knowing what I am looking at. Encrypt it all - not just the login.

Security. That would be an improvement.

I am not trying to "alleviate woes" all I am showing is the convince an app would supply. Pretty simple to understand, this is a social site and several social sites have dedicated apps.

I am not mad that there is not an app available, just saying that if there was one I would download it and use it.

And I simply demonstrated there is little benefit afforded by an app and did so with fact-based technical merit.

For you: I hope you get an app.
For THF technical staff: I hope you don't waste your time on an app but if you do don't cut corners.

^^ yes this!!! anything I post in and there is new post I want to know on my phone

1) Open a thread
2) At the top of all the posts click the "Topic Options" menu (green button)
3) Click "Add Topic to your Watched Topics"

Now when a new post is made to the thread you'll receive an email.

If you haven't done the above but respond to a thread you can click the checkbox labeled "Add this thread to my Watched Topics" which appears under the text box you type your message in to when creating a "Reply" (different than "Quick Reply").

Again, when a new post to the thread is made you'll receive an email.

Receiving emails, whether it's for thread activity or PMs, is dependent on your Preferences. If you don't receive emails than your Preferences need changed. Click the "My Stuff" menu (green button toward top middle of page) and select "Edit Preferences". In Preferences select "Yes" for "By default should anything added to your Watch Lists be emailed to you?" and "Do you want to be notified via email when you receive a private message?". I believe both of these default to "Yes".

Boom! Click stuff, receive bacon!
