Free to a good home. I'm done with pen raised birds. Just stop by and pick them up. I might throw in a tie out or two.

Wish you were closer. I bought a small cage recently for transporting birds, but still need to order me a bird bag to go with it. Nice of you to offer them up on the forum Bill.

Nice offer Bill wish I was closer.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

We could also make this a discussion post. I'm bored. The time between football games is too long. SNF is supposed to start at 7:00, but we have to watch 30 minutes of repeats of what happened on all the games today.
I had a Johnny house for over 20 years. It worked fine, but I quit flying my birds out. They would all fly out in a group. I guess we could call them coveys. I didn't get as much work out of them as I got out of catching my birds, putting them in a bird bag, and planting them. I didn't want to simulate wild bird hunting. I wanted to simulate the game I was playing. I also wanted to simulate walking birds. I could plant singles and walk them out. I liked to plant off my gator because it simulated what they do in the games we all played.
Some dogs switch right over to wild birds from pen raised birds. Some take longer. My friend Chris had to send his britt back to Ronnie Smith because he had trouble making the switch. It's not much a trainer can do about that. It takes time and wild birds.

One of Dash's better hunt test performances was out at the LBJ grasslands bird training area. His particular test, Mike Pirtle had put out the birds via horseback. Dash ran strait to every bird on the course that had been planted by him. Mr. Pirtle even came up to me joking to leash my dog because Dash was finding every bird he planted so fast, that the other dog would not have a chance. Dash had grown up in a horse barn and more than a few birds had been planted for him via horseback when he was a puppy and during his stay there while I was recovering from the flesh eating disease. Dash knew the game and was simply tracking the horse to every bird.

Hi Bill Hate to hear you are quitting anything. I have enjoyed all your posts and threads. All I know about this quail thing is pen raised birds. I am sure the difference is huge and I have no appreciation for the differences. I saw you offering your Johnny House 3 years ago and it caught my interest. Please keep sharing your experiences on this forum.

The Johnny house went to a good home. The new owner is now winning much more in NSTRA. I'm not giving up bird dogging, just pen raised birds. I don't remember the last time I used them for training. Here's what you can do by planting your birds in singles; I started walking some of the birds out after a few days. Here you go;
