You hear a rifle shot ring from a neighboring property?

Must have been shooting at a pig or coyote up

I heard the shot that took the buck I'd been chasing that basically lived on my property 24/7 all summer and vanished during the rut.

Then I got a text message of a pic of his head on the ground. Which was worse than hearing the shot.

Sucks, but that's hunting. To your point, yes, every shot I hear is, in my mind, a pig, coyote, or annoying squirrel.

What's even worse than that, is while during an evening hunt having a coyote carry a piece of a whitetail hide underneath your bow blind after you heard your neighbor shoot earlier that day. Never saw that buck I was after again.

This thread actually brings back another painful hunting memory I had blocked out...

Used to hunt in Bedias in Grimes County before ARs. My buddy's ranch bordered a "hunting club" that had 18 hunters on 500 acres. Needless to say, the place was badly shot out. We more or less hunted it for hogs/does/beer. Very difficult to ever see an even semi-legitimate buck.

I'm sitting in a blind that borders some woods that back up to the hunting club when a couple of does and a young buck walk out in front of me. I'm not going to shoot the young buck, even though I know the hunting club members will. I watch him eating corn awhile, and then to my horror, he heads into the woods towards the hunting club and I see him jump the fence before disappearing into the woods. Just like clockwork, a few seconds later I hear a shot. No exaggeration. That's not even the bad part.

The shot alarms the does as well, and to my absolute disbelief, they run TOWARDS the hunting club and out of sight. It's a no-doe county, so I know they're not going to get shot, but as I'm watching them disappear, I'm not paying attention to my backside and only catch the movement of what is obviously a fairly large buck disappear into the woods to my left that also funnels to the hunting club. The rut is going on and I'm certain he's taking the wooded way of following the does. This is the single biggest buck I've ever seen out there (a pretty decent 8pt). Another minute or so passes and I hear yet another shot.

I know they were legal, but it's very frustrating neighboring a place as insanely overhunted as that.

a single shot doesn't bother me. it's just a part of the hunting game.
30 shots on top of one another does bother me. then 30 more.
then 30 more. then 10 more. then . . . .etc.

or loud radios. i'm not impressed by someone's "system"

We had 8 blac buck hop the fence yesterday, we have been passing hopping for babies, and the ram isn't mature, from 200 yards away 4 shots in a minute... I sure hope it was pigs

Deer at feeders and cows decide to show up and hang out the rest of the day.

I heard that I try to keep an empty bottle in the stand but it doesn't do any good in that situation.

^^This. I got out to the lease Thursday afternoon and proceeded to check my game cams before the evening hunt, only to find the cows had busted through my feeder pen. It was so muddy from the rain this week that the cows had actually managed to push two T-posts completely over. I spent 3 hours Friday midday repairing the feeder pen, and its definitely much more sturdy than it was before. If those damn cows breakthrough it again, I'm going to be irate. bang

I can relate a few years ago I had a nice 11pt coming in every morning like clockwork he had a young but nice 8 with him too I named the 11 "This Year" and the smaller buck "Next Year". On opening day I settled into my blind ready for a chance at "This Year" and just before he usually showed up I heard a shot not far across the fence and sure enough neither buck showed. Sometime later that year I ran into one of the neighbors and he told me he had killed an 11 and I showed him the pic on my phone and he said that was him he also complimented my set up on that spot which meant he had seen my spot in that corner I still don't know how anyone saw it without being on my place. Someone else getting that buck first was no big deal that happens what I really hate is when I let a young buck walk and he goes to a neighbors spot and gets shot, it gets hard to manage a place under 1,000 acres now days with people killing young bucks before they reach their potential.

I know the feeling it's the struggle between hunters and livestock it gets hard not to shoot the dumb critters. I consider cows natures idiots and besides deer taste better.

...the neighbors' dogs show up.
...your target buck shows up only to be chased off by a crow.
...neighbor kids want to see what happens when you shoot at a batch of tannerite during prime hunting hours.

I don't concern myself with what my neighbors shoot. They have every right to shoot what is on their property as I have every right to shoot what is one mine.

Ones mans trash is another mans trophy. Back in the past, hunting was a way to have fun and enjoy the outdoors. Many people out there have lost sight of what hunting truly is, and now view it as a trophy only event.
